Unique architectural landscape in quiet Lafayette suburb
In Potter Hollow, custom houses create a unique architectural landscape, set in a quiet, suburban atmosphere. "It was not a high-end neighborhood when it was built, but it also wasn't your basic houses," says Cheryl Butcher, Managing Broker at Keller Williams Realty. "They were custom homes with different builders from the '60s and '70s, so they were nicer homes. A lot of them are going to have basements and bigger yards." Lots of trees have had time to mature, too, adding plenty of shade and greenery. The homes are the main draw for the neighborhood, but not the only one. There are plenty of pickleball courts nearby, plus locally-owned restaurants and organic grocery shopping within reach of the neighborhood.

Ranch-style homes with decorative stonework
With age, the homes of Potter Hollow have become more sought after for the quality of construction and high-end finishes. Ranch-style houses have decorative brick or stonework, chimneys and bay windows. There are also multi-story properties such as Colonials and raised ranches. These homes tend to sit back from the street in large front yards, shaded by lots of mature trees. Interior detailing is another draw to these houses. "They may have crown molding and hardwood floors," Butcher says. "They're not what today's generation would think of as cool, but they're much better built and sturdier and have higher-end finishes." Prices can range from $255,000 to $345,000.

Chains and local restaurants on South Street
The neighborhood is about a mile from South Street, a major commercial hub. "Potter Hollow is really close to a lot of restaurants, yet not on top of them, so you don't have the traffic," says Susan Trachtman, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Shook. There are fast food drive-throughs and sit-down chains like Olive Garden. Mountain Jack's is a rustic steakhouse with a stone fireplace, sourcing its meats, veggies and wine from local producers. Fresh Thyme Market is a nearby grocer specializing in organic food options.
