Tecumseh South is a Lafayette suburb offering a slice of Americana in the city's south-central area. "When you drive through the neighborhood, you'll see people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes, playing basketball outside," says Lauren Alexander, team leader of the Alexander Group at Keller Williams. Made up mostly of single-family homes, it offers a typical suburban feel, yet long-term residents have added personal touches to make this neighborhood a home. "They keep their lawns mowed, and they have decorations in their yards," Alexander says. "You can tell people do more than sleep there — these are their homes."
Ranches, bi-levels and Colonials
Tecumseh South is one of the more affordable and, therefore, sought-after neighborhoods in the city, with a median price of about $190,000, compared to $240,000 for Lafayette as a whole. Homes spend only about 10 days on the market, on average. Ranch, bi-level and Colonial Revival homes make up the bulk of the housing stock. Flower beds, garden gnomes and other ornaments add personality to modestly-sized and well-maintained yards. Prices can range from $150,000 to about $250,000.
Peaceful walks around the pond at Armstrong Park
Quaint neighborhood parks and larger community parks are close at hand. Kennedy Park borders the neighborhood's south side near Miami Elementary. Spanning seven acres, it features a wide open green space, a soccer field and a playground accommodating kids of different ages. A quick drive down Beck Lane leads to Armstrong Park. This 30-acre area offers a peaceful space for reflection with a paved walking trail around the pond.

Pay Less Supermarket has all the ingredients for a home-cooked meal about 2 miles east. Fresh veggies are also available in the warmer months at Community Reformed Church's U-pick garden.

Princesses, monsters and superheroes can hunt for candy at the Trunk or Treat event in October. The event also features a free meal in the gym.
