Pa Davis Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Lafayette, Louisiana
Lafayette Parish 70501
Historic exteriors on Louisiana homes
Many of the houses in the Pa Davis Park community were built in the 1940s or 1950s, and many residents live in older cottages and bungalows that stand under mature oak and pecan trees. Most other homes are ranch styles with carports and driveways that minimize street parking. Lazard says that a lot of first-time homeowners, retirees and investors often look to the neighborhood for properties they can put their own touches on while retaining the historic or classic exteriors that are all around Lafayette. The area is less expensive than neighboring communities, with prices ranging from $70,000 to about $110,000.“Pa” Davis Park
The neighborhood’s namesake park sprawls over 30 acres in the heart of the city. This green space’s formal name is F.E. “Pa” Davis Park, although few remember the first initials. Instead, the first thing that comes to mind for many when hearing the name is the park’s 18-hole disc golf course. It hosts tournaments throughout the year for participants of all ages and abilities and features challenging pro-tee areas for those wanting to test their skills. There’s also a 1-mile jogging trail, soccer fields and basketball courts. But one of the more sought-after parts of the space is the brightly colored playground, which stands out in the trees. On the western end of the neighborhood lies the Lafayette Muni Golf Course, which is a favorite among local golfers and regularly hosts tournaments and charitable events. “I always see people golfing,” Lazard says. “It is a beautiful course, so it is a highlight to the drive that you can pass when coming into the neighborhood.”Lafayette Parish School System
Students in Pa Davis Park are part of the Lafayette Parish School System, one of the largest school districts in Louisiana, with over 4,000 employees serving over 30,000 students. They can begin their education at Faulk Elementary School, which receives a C rating from Niche. They can then move on to Paul Breaux Middle School, which earns a B rating and offers the 4-H club to students so they can get more involved in their community. Students finish up their education at the C-minus-rated Northside High School. “The community likes to come together and support the schools with a lot of local events, like volunteer work, toy drives, coat drives, things like that,” Lazard says.Lafayette’s golf and festivals
When it comes to annual events, Lazard says that Louisiana is known for its festivals. One such event is the Lift City Festival, sponsored by the local Lift City Church, which features vendors, singing, music and activities for the kids every October. The neighborhood also has the MLK Parade in January and the Black Heritage Parade in February, which pass through its heart. And of course, no Louisiana city is complete without its annual Mardi Gras celebration.Access to Thruways and I-10
Close access to the SW Evangeline Thruway and Interstate 10 makes trips to the nearby hubs of Baton Rouge or Houston convenient. “The majority of people get around using their cars, but you can see a little walking and biking around from time to time,” Lazard says. For trips around the US, Lafayette Regional Airport is a mile and a half from the neighborhood, but even with it so close, there is very little noise. “I am here every day and don’t hear anything,” Lazard says. For Medical care, the Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics are 3 miles east of the neighborhood.Plate lunches in Lafayette
There are plenty of nearby shopping and dining options. V-Zay Express sits in the middle of the neighborhood and offers both plate lunches and grocery options to locals daily, from crawfish etouffee to smothered oxtail. Breaux Mart is 2 miles to the north, a full grocery store and restaurant in the heart of the Lafayette community. “It’s not a sit-down kind of restaurant but is certainly busy with plate lunches and to-go orders,” Lazard says. Galleries Lafayette Shopping Center also sits at the northern end of the neighborhood and is home to the local Family Dollar.
