Wekiva residents have a plethora of nearby options for enjoying the great outdoors. Wekiva Springs State Park, located just south of Wekiva, spans over 7,000 acres and is known for its natural springs with crystal-clear water. Swimming is a popular pastime in this area, along with kayaking and hiking. Kelly Park, which shares some of its borders with Wekiva Springs State Park, is another favored option. Here, park-goers can relax on an innertube while floating down the park’s natural lazy river, immersed in mangroves. Golf lovers can spend a day on the green at RedTail Golf Course, located on Member Lane, or Sweetwater Golf & Country Club, just south of Wekiva.

Wekiva offers a blend of rural and suburban living. In some pockets, narrow residential roads are flanked with ranch homes and Cape Cods perched on lots ranging from a half-acre to an acre. These properties offer plenty of space between neighbors and a sense of privacy and seclusion. Wekiva is also home to more suburban-style neighborhoods, boasting wide streets, sidewalks and tidy, standardized lots. In these areas, Colonial-inspired and transitional-style homes are prevalent. All of Wekiva’s neighborhoods have leafy, mature trees that reflect the area’s verdant surroundings. Here, a three-bedroom ranch home costs around $350,000, while a four-bedroom colonial costs around $500,000.

Shopping and dining down Highway 429
Commercial properties are sparse in Wekiva, so locals head 8 miles east on Highway 429 to Sanford for shopping and dining. Another Broken Egg, a breakfast spot on International Parkway, serves egg dishes and other American fare in a casual atmosphere. For Tex-Mex cuisine, Tijuana Flats on Highway 429 is the place to go. Students in Wekiva attend schools in the Seminole County Public Schools district, which is ranked as the No. 1 best school district in the Orlando area, as well as the Lake County Schools district. These schools include Heathrow Elementary School, which receives an overall grade of A from Niche, Markham Woods Middle School, which receives an A-minus, and Mt. Dora High School, which earns a B. Mt. Dora High School has a robust catalog of Career-Technical Education (CTE) programs in fields that include criminal justice, horticulture and culinary arts.

Commute by car or bus
Most Wekiva residents travel by car, as there are no public transportation options directly in the neighborhood. The neighboring city of Sanford is serviced by the LYNX public transportation system, with many bus stops in the area. Orlando Sanford International Airport is 17 miles east of Wekiva, making an easy half-hour commute for jet setters or those who frequently travel for work. Highway 29 borders Wekiva to the north, making it quick and easy to get across town and beyond.
