Waterfront living along Oswego Lake
Oregon’s signature fir trees welcome residents to the southern Portland suburb of Evergreen. Situated along Oswego Lake, the neighborhood is known for its relaxed waterfront lifestyle and proximity to urban amenities. “The Evergreen community is within walking distance of everything in downtown Lake Oswego — It may look small on a map, but it has everything you could want in a neighborhood,” says Tom Newton, Chair of the Evergreen Neighborhood Association. While the lakeside lifestyle attracts many outdoor enthusiasts moving into the area, the community also features the best school district in Oregon and a bustling corridor of local restaurants and boutiques less than a mile away. Despite its growing influx of tourists, Evergreen maintains its community-oriented feel through events like the annual Summer Concert Series and the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market. With nearby urban amenities, a thriving recreation scene and an acclaimed school district, living along Oswego Lake never looked better.
Lakefront cabanas and multi-family townhouses
The real estate market in Evergreen is competitive because of its lakefront lifestyle and proximity to urban amenities. “Evergreen is a very desirable neighborhood because of its central location,” says Sara Plestina Lewis, Principal Broker at Windermere Realty Trust. “It’s walkable to downtown Lake Oswego, and most lots have easements to Oswego Lake.” Most homes were constructed in the 1950s, resulting in ramblers and bungalows common of the era. Newly constructed contemporary styles are also available. With a median sales price of $1.2 Million, homes here are priced $700,000 more than the average property in the Portland Metro Area. For example, established single family homes range from the mid $700,000s for a ranch-style fixer-upper to upwards of $3.6 Million for a contemporary home with updated amenities along Lakewood Bay. Homes bordering Oswego Lake are often equipped with guest houses or pillared “cabanas” set away from the primary home with immediate access to boat garages and lakefront patios. Single-family homes dominate the area; however, townhouses are also available, ranging from the mid $300,000 to upwards of $1.4 Million with lakefront views. Homes often feature multi-car garages and are fronted by mid-sized yards with stone walkways and shrubbery or fencing for added seclusion from neighbors. “It’s forested with lovely fir trees,” says Newton. “Evergreen is heavily nature-oriented and will protect these trees whenever possible.” Streets are narrow and tree-lined, with paved sidewalks for increased safety and navigation throughout the community.
