Suburban community along the edge of Lake Oswego
Located right along the Tualatin River, Rosewood is a community split between Rivergrove and the affluent suburban city of Lake Oswego. Although it certainly features some charming neighborhood blocks of its own, Rosewood contrasts a bit with some of its neighboring communities. Lake Oswego has long stood out for its scenery and upscale housing, factors that have long allowed it to serve as a weekend home for many in the region and beyond. Rosewood has a more modest feel, but that trait has been a strong point as it has led to easier affordability for those who have otherwise longed to live in this part of the greater Portland region. “Rosewood is still very affordable in relative to Lake Oswego as a whole,” says Tracy Hasson, a broker with Sotheby’s International Realty, who’s made just under 10 sales in Rosewood. “There are still pockets in unincorporated Clackamas County that still have a lot of single-story ranch homes, but the location is still very ideal. It’s very close to the interstate, close to the mall, close to the shops, close to the Willamette River.” Rosewood lies just east of the Bridgeport Village, an open-air mall that has been ranked among the best in this part of the state. Another thing that has spurred interest in Rosewood in more recent times is that its neighborhood school, River Grove Elementary, is set to move into a brand new building. “It’s pretty state-of-the-art,” Hasson says. “The excellent schools are one of the biggest draws as a whole.”

Shop and dine along Nyberg and at Bridgeport
Rosewood sits just east of several shopping districts, all of which are located along Interstate 5 in the nearby Tualatin. Residents can go to the group of sprawling shopping centers along Southwest Nyberg Street, where they’ll find many chain brands. They can shop for groceries at New Seasons Market or go to Fred Meyer if they’re looking for an even greater variety of goods. The local choices here include Mashita Teriyaki, where patrons can choose chicken or beef plates, fried noodles or grab a bento. They can also meet for brunch at BRIX Tavern. While in this area, they can travel over to the Tualatin Lake at the Commons, a roughly 5-acre plaza featuring a man-made lake that they take strolls around or admire from the benches. And if those looking for even more options can travel a little farther north to the Bridgeport Village, an open-air mall with green spaces between the building. The shopping mall features a water fixture with a fire burning atop an arranged pile of stone slabs. Among the many chain brands at Bridgeport are a Whole Foods and a Regal movie theater. There’s also a McCormick & Schmick’s Grill those looking to enjoy a juicy, rare steak and beverage in an upscale setting.

Exploring Browns Ferry Park
Buried under a dense natural canopy that includes towering pines is Pilkington Park. The nearly 4-acre space near the heart of the neighborhood offers a path for jogs or casual strolls, tables for weekend picnics and play fields that include an area for owners who want to let their dogs roam off-leash. Using Interstate 5, residents can cross the Tualatin River along Rosewood’s southern bounds and visit Browns Ferry Park, a 28-acre riverside space where they can explore the dense woodland on the Tualatin River Greenway. Those looking to get on the water can also rent a kayak or canoe there. The area also hosts a seasonal art camp for children. The other gem in the area, located about 4 miles northeast of the neighborhood, is the 405-acre Oswego Lake. Although there have been legal debates over general public access to the lake over the years, students in the Lake Oswego School District — which covers Rosewood — may access the Lake Grove Swim Park on the west bay. The park features a pier that children and teens can be seen regularly diving off of during the warmer months.

Access to one of Oregon’s best public high schools
Rosewood has access to some stellar schools. They include River Grove Elementary, which is located in the neighborhood and received an A grade from ratings site Niche. For secondary education, there’s Lakeridge Middle School and Lakeridge High School, which also both received an A or higher. The new River Grove Elementary is being built in the same spot as the existing school. The new school will be about 20,000 square feet larger, when not counting the existing portable classroom buildings. Lakeridge High, located in Lake Oswego, is ranked as both the second best public high school and sixth best high school for STEM in Oregon. Lakeridge High students who are science enthusiasts can join the Lake Monsters Robotics Team, which also has students from Lake Oswego High School. The team builds robots and competes against other districts, states and even countries in the international First Robotics Competition.

Comfortable ranch-styles and some larger Traditionals
Rosewood’s residential blocks feature charming pockets populated by ranch-style houses found below a dense canopy of conifers. Dirt alleys can be seen bypassing between homes, while some residents enjoy neighborhood bike rides under the shade of the towering trees. Price points for the ranch-style houses and bi-levels can go from the lower $700,000s to around $850,000, with overall size playing some role. There are also larger, two-story Traditional style houses that can go for right around $1 million.

I-5 connection to Portland
The neighborhood lies just east of I-5, which provides a direct connection to Portland to the north. Portland and the Portland International Airport are, respectively, about 15 miles and 22 miles north of Rosewood, if traveling on I-5. The WES Commuter Rail, which serves several greater Portland suburbs, has a stop right next to the Tualatin Lake at the Commons. The Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center is located across the Tualatin River from Rosewood.
