Dibble says it's not the only rural pockets of Lake Placid being bought up; recently closed citrus and caladium farms have also been acquired for new builds. While plots start at around $12,500, those along canals and cul-de-sac streets can be priced as much as $100,000. Single-story homes offer one-car garages and open floor plans, 1,300 to 2,300 square feet of living space and a price range between $250,000 and $550,000. However, a few stately lakefront homes can encroach on the $700,000 to $1 million price range.Highlands County students choose between public, private and online schooling
