Revitalized community still retains "Old Florida" feel
The colorful houses and palm tree-lined streets in Memorial Park lend themselves to the neighborhood’s “Old Florida” atmosphere. This humble slice of coastal suburbia is coming back to life after a period of decline. “That’s mostly due to its convenient location, which people love because it’s right by Interstate 95, but it’s still east of the highway, so you’re closer to the beach,” says Donna Alexis, a real estate association with RE/MAX Complete Solutions, who has 12 years of experience selling in South Florida. “People have started to buy the homes and invest in them by making modern upgrades.”

Vast parks and beach days
A major destination for fishing and boating, the Intracoastal Waterway separates Florida’s barrier islands from the mainland. Locals can drive across the Lake Avenue Drawbridge to hit the city’s oceanfront strip, just 2 miles east. For a freshwater adventure, Lake Osborne and John Prince Park sit west of the neighborhood. Friends can get together for a game of basketball, pickleball or tennis. It’s also become a popular spot among kids because there are multiple playgrounds for different ages. The Custard Apple Trail loops around Lake Osborne and has been a staple for outdoor enthusiasts since the 1940s, when it became the city’s first nature trail. Wetlands reveal themselves as locals wander farther along the walkway lined with pond apple trees. People will likely spot wildlife like herons, egrets, osprey and marsh rabbits while venturing through the swampy trail.

Renovated midcentury homes
Memorial Park primarily features ranch-style and minimal traditional homes, with some featuring small front patios, while others sport Spanish design elements like clay roof tiles or arched stucco entryways. Larger, two-story condo buildings and duplexes share the streets, blending in with the freestanding homes. Price points here tend to be lower than other neighborhoods in Lake Worth Beach, closer to the waterfront or downtown. Depending on renovations, a two-to three-bedroom home can list from $260,000 to $385,000. One-to two-bedroom condos in Memorial Park are usually priced from $110,000 to $149,000. In nearby ROLO, homes can sell for $450,000 to $570,000. In South Palm Park, a house with a view of the Lake Worth Lagoon can climb into the millions.
Most homes in Memorial Park are traditional ranch-styles with small yards.

Friendly neighborhood competition
Memorial Park’s active neighborhood association puts together community events and inter-neighborhood competitions. One of the most popular events in Lake Worth Beach is the Fourth of July celebration, culminating in the biggest neighborhood rivalry of all: The Great American Raft Race. A community mainstay for more than 20 years, the race along the Intracoastal Waterway features rafts from local groups and neighborhood organizations, each adhering to strict building standards and that year’s theme.
Everyday essentials and patio front restaurants
Thanks to the neighborhood’s proximity to Dixie Highway, locals are never too far from daily essentials, a historic community theater and beloved local eateries. “Most are situated along Lake and Lucerne Avenues, but a lot of people enjoy the waterfront vibe at Benny’s on the Beach,” says Lisa Treu, founder and real estate agent with Treu Group Real Estate with 15 years of experience selling in South Florida. Awnings and string lights hang over the outdoor patios of restaurants frequented by locals, including Mario’s, The Irish Brigade and Lilo’s Streetfood & Bar. Tucked in the back of Lilo’s is a hidden gem called The Library, a cozy speakeasy with craft cocktails and live music. For groceries, there’s a Publix nearby. Down the road is Lake Worth Playhouse, a hub for independent movie lovers and local artists who have been performing on the stage since the 1920s.

Memorial Park edged by Dixie Highway and I-95
Cutting through the neighborhood’s western side is Pinecrest Cemetery. This memorial site has graves dating as far back as the late 1890s and features a large memorial garden for fallen veterans from Lake Worth Beach. It’s situated just one block away from Interstate 95, which could make for some traffic noise during rush hour. Residents may also hear trains passing by on the railroad tracks running along the western side of I-95 and Memorial Park’s eastern end near U.S. Route 1, known to locals as Dixie Highway. Both roadways provide access to the shores lining the Intracoastal Waterway and downtown Lake Worth Beach, within 1 to 2.5 miles of the neighborhood. For even more travel options, locals can jump on I-95 northbound for 10 miles to reach Palm Beach International Airport. Dixie Highway also runs to the Keys off the southern tip of the state.
