Near the heart of Lakeland, Florida, Lake Beulah is a neighborhood blending historic charm, urban convenience and natural beauty. The primarily residential suburb hugs a lake of the same name, offering a peaceful feel, with Downtown Lakeland less than 2 miles away. About 35 miles east of Tampa, Lakeland is the largest city on the Interstate 4 corridor between Orlando and Tampa, making it a central transportation hub and providing access to area amenities. Lakes are the city’s defining feature, and Lake Beulah is one of 38 spread across Lakeland, populated with hundreds of swans that earned it the name “Swan City.” Outdoor recreation is a big draw here, as well as affordability and proximity to trendy restaurants and stadiums. “Lakeland is one of the top-growing cities in the nation, and Lake Beulah is located in a prime area,” says Christine Hubbert, a Realtor with Team Hubbert at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Fine Living. “It has that small-town vibe, small enough that you’re going to run into friends and family in public.”

The 18-acre lake is a neighborhood favorite for fishing. Its surrounding trail is popular for hiking and biking. Lakeland Veterans Memorial Park sits directly east of the lake and features several monuments honoring soldiers and picnic space. Boaters can drop in at Lake Hunter Boat Ramp, next to Lake Beulah. The 168-acre Bonnet Springs Park is directly north of the neighborhood and offers a variety of recreation, including several miles of trails and nature exhibits. Deep within the park is the Kiwanis Cares for Kids Treehouse, a favorite hideaway. Bonnet Springs Park also features botanical gardens, a butterfly house and the Florida Children’s Museum. Lakeland Country Club is a well-known spot 3 miles south, serving the community since 1924. Members can access tennis courts, a fitness center and pool. Cyclists will enjoy the Lake-to-Lakes Trail, a 26-mile path connecting north and south Lakeland around nine lakes.

The tree-lined neighborhood features cobblestone roads leading to bungalows and ranch-style homes. Most were built in the late-1940s, but some date to the early ‘20s. “One of the draws for families and investors is the affordability of the homes here,” says Drew Wilson, Realtor for Keller Williams Realty Lakeland. Prices range from the mid-$100,000s for a two-bedroom to the low-$400,000s for a three- or four-bedroom. Property sizes average between 800 square feet and 2,000 square feet. Lot sizes average around 8,000 square feet but can span more than a quarter-acre. Some dwellings have rear garages, but there is ample street parking. Twin Lakes Estates is a complex with age 55-plus apartments and multifamily units. Most residents are within walking and biking distance of schools, the lake and public transit. Lake Beulah has a CAP Index Crime Score of 6/10, higher than the national average of 4/10.

Magnet academy for tech and high school sports
Polk County Public Schools serves the area, which has a B rating on Niche. Kids can attend the C-minus-rated Jesse Keen Elementary, followed by Southwest Middle, which earns a C. The elementary school provides after-school programs. Students can finish their education at Lakeland High School, which is B-plus-rated and offers football and track. The neighborhood also provides the C-plus-rated magnet school, R.W. Blake Academy, and the charter school, McKeel Academy of Technology, which earns an A on Niche. The private Florida Southern College is 2 miles away.

Lake Beulah’s Ybors Cuban Café has been satisfying hungry patrons with Cuban sandwiches and their traditional chicken and rice dish since 1947. Most other retailers and restaurants are in Downtown Lakeland, less than 2 miles east. The historic, brick-lined area offers trendy restaurants like Fresco’s Southern Kitchen and Bar, known for its fried pecan hand pies and fried green tomato BLT. Mojo Federal Swine & Spirits is a favorite for barbecue classics. Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille is another downtown hotspot that serves jambalaya and other Creole dishes. Harvey’s Supermarkets is on Route 563 for essentials. Shopping mall Lakeside Village is 3 miles south for a larger selection. Entertainment is also nearby. The RP Funding Center is less than 1 mile east and hosts concerts and other performances. It’s also where the regional minor-league basketball team, the Lakeland Magic, plays home games.

A Christmas Parade and the MayFaire-by-the Lake Art Festival
Most events are in Downtown Lakeland. Downtown’s annual Christmas parade is its most highly attended, featuring Santa and themed floats. MayFaire-by-the-Lake Art Festival has been a tradition in Lakeland since 1971. Held on Lake Morton’s shores, the two-day festival during Mother’s Day weekend features art from over 150 vendors and food trucks. Snowfest is another popular celebration in December, where downtown turns into a winter wonderland. Held for over 40 years, it’s a favorite for finding locally made art and crafts. Neighborhood churches include Trinity United Methodist Church and Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Two miles from Downtown Lakeland
State Roads 600 and 563 run along Lake Beulah’s northern and eastern edges. These connect to Highway 92 and Interstate 4, which provide access around the area. Lakeland Linder International Airport is about a 6-mile drive, and Tampa is approximately 33 miles west. Citrus Connection provides public transportation. Bus stops are along Lake Beulah Drive and George Jenkins Boulevard. Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center is the closest hospital, a 3-mile drive.
