A wooded area next to Lake Springfield

The aptly named Lakemore cozies up to Lake Springfield in Summit County, with a history dating back to the 1800s. The area was once a part of the Springfield township, later becoming a village in the 1920s. "At one time, the village of Lakemore was a resort community. Over time, the population exploded, and now people live here," explains Lance Weimer, Realtor with Lance & Assoc. Inc. A handful of restaurants sit in the middle of the community, with Springfield Lake on the northwest side. Small town is certainly the vibe out in this wooded area.

Colonial-inspired and ranch style homes

Winding streets ebb and flow through the tree line, with a less planned appearance than its suburban counterparts closer to Akron. "The area has small, cottage-like homes that give a sense of simplicity. And those living near the lake have great waterfront views," says Weimer. Traveling through the village streets are also Colonial-inspired homes, some built over the last five years. Potential homebuyers can choose between houses from the late 1990s to new builds in the eastern development of Brittany Point. Ranch styles and traditional homes that blend decorative stone and lap-siding exteriors also appear. Potential homebuyers can expect prices to vary. Home values average between $100,000 and $260,000, but a fixer-upper may cost less than $100 per square foot.

Springfield Junior/Senior High School offers courses for kids in grades seven through twelve, earning a C grade overall.

Weekends are spent at Springfield Lake and Dodds Lakefront Park

Locals have many choices within the village to enjoy the great outdoors and stretch their legs. At Hinton Humiston Waterworks Park, folks can watch a friendly game at the public baseball diamonds or stroll along the paved walking paths while the little ones enjoy the playground. The community garden is great for putting down roots and getting the hands dirty while basking in the sun. Springfield Lake continues to be a big attraction to residents and visitors alike. "It's right around the corner. People love to fish and swim," says Re/Max Edge's Lenny Herbert, who has 24 years of experience. Dodds Lakefront Park includes boat launches to explore the waters—the municipality and locals can host fishing tournaments on the lake. Docks are available for rent per season for avid boaters. Back on land, locals may also enjoy the picnic and playgrounds at the waterfront gathering space. Village and state agencies continue to monitor the safety of Springfield Lake's algae levels for public safety.

Pizza and groceries within reach

For ordering out, pizza lovers will have several options to choose from when ordering to-go. Gionino's Pizzeria is a popular Ohio-based chain, and newcomer DeCheco's Pizzeria has a growing fan base for signature pizzas with interesting flavors. One has pickles and potato chips! Farmer Boy Restaurant is a casual, sit-down spot with a country feel and a laid-back menu. Here, hungry residents explore simple menu items such as hamburgers, chicken fried steak, and American breakfast staples. Weimer says locals head to the Lakemore Plaza Shopping Center to satisfy their retail pleasures. The plaza contains a Save-A-Lot grocery store, service providers, a clinic, and other storefronts. A Giant Eagle Supermarket is also just north of the village along East Waterloo Road.

Things to do in Lakemore

The historic Springfield Lake Roller Rink sits within the community. Opened since the end of World War 2, the skating rink offers an air of nostalgia for those who live there. Colorful lights and a disco ball sparkle as skaters of all ages enjoy this Lakemore staple. Locals can also look forward to a calendar of events throughout the year, such as Movies on the Lake, the Memorial Day Parade, which honors local veterans or the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in wintertime. These small touches add a huge community impact, ironically making this quaint village feel like a small town just south of Akron, Ohio.

Getting around Lakemore by car

Despite all its charm, the small town of Lakemore has one drawback: transportation. Owning a car is essential to get around this neighborhood. Fortunately, the community is traversible in fewer than 10 miles.
