A scenic Lakewood neighborhood
Scenic waterside views are a hallmark of Kendrick Lake, a suburban pocket of Lakewood with ties to an agricultural past. Before development, the land here was used for several reservoirs to irrigate the agricultural industry that spurred Lakewood’s formation. These reservoirs remain, and some feature park amenities.
Some lucky Kendrick Lake residents have yards that back up to Kendrick Lake Park's trail.
Settling into Kendrick Lake
The Kendrick Lakes area was primarily developed in the 1960s and 1970s, and while many of the homes have since been updated, they maintain their fundamental older traits. Split-levels and tri-levels were constructed on the neighborhood’s more sloped terrain, while brick ranchers can be found elsewhere. These homes range from $440,000 to $675,000. Modern communities of more expansive properties with grand entryways sit in neighborhoods like Allison Glenn; these typically cost $940,000 to $1.2 million.
The lots in Kendrick Lakes are more compact than some of Lakewood’s earlier developed communities but still provide enough room for a statement tree and patches of stony landscaping. Driveways extend to skinny sidewalks and lead active residents throughout the neighborhood.
Alameda International High School is a public school located in Lakewood.
JeffCo schools in Kendrick Lake
Like most of the Lakewood community, Kendrick Lakes falls under Jefferson County School District R-1. The neighborhood’s own Kendrick Lakes Elementary School earns an A-minus from Niche, while Alameda International Junior / Senior High School earns a C. Students can attend this central school for seventh through 12th grade and enroll in the International Baccalaureate program.
Visiting Kendrick Lake Park
Lakewood’s natural beauty is in the spotlight here, and Kendrick Lake Park is the star. A mile-long paved trail circles its 31-acre reservoir. Trail walkers are in full view of one of the state’s most famous xeriscape gardens. These gardens feature plants that are native to Colorado and can thrive in the unique climate caused by proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Xeric plants use half as much water as plants imported from other parts of the country, and replacing public gardens and parkways with native species is part of Lakewood’s sustainability efforts. A playground, rentable picnic areas and fishing in the reservoir are also available.

Dining and shopping in Kendrick Lake
Kendrick Lake is served by two shopping centers. Lochwood Square hosts a King Soopers grocery store, plus the popular local Mexican food chain El Tequileno Family Mexican Restaurant. Jewell Square Shopping Center is in the opposite corner of the neighborhood and boasts a collection of discount, hardware, auto and pet stores. Locals are also just three miles south of another popular option, the outdoor Belmar shopping center.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lake's southern border of Jewell Avenue boasts its own collection of shops and eateries -- like Taste of Denmark, a European-style bakery specializing in fruit Danishes, almond Kringle, Berliners and other breads and pastries.
Celebrating Earth Day in Belmar
Each April, folks gather at nearby Belmar Park for the annual Earth Day Festival. This sustainability-focused event uses live music, arts and crafts, and demonstrations to connect the community members in Lakewood to each other and to the earth.
Getting from Kendrick Lake to Denver and beyond
Despite the secluded feel of the Kendrick Lakes neighborhood, residents are just 10 miles away from downtown Denver. Commuters and city-goers can take the 6th Avenue Freeway before a short jaunt on Interstate 25. The Denver International Airport is a longer trek at 33 miles, but hospital access is close by with CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital just 4 miles to the northwest.
Like the rest of Lakewood, RTD bus stops line South Garrison Street, and the Garrison Light Rail station sits 3.5 miles north for those heading into the Mile-High City.
