Rooney Valley
Spanish Revival estates with community amenities
Rooney Valley is home to a modern housing market with sprawling Spanish Revival McMansions and new traditional estates built as recently as 2014. Neutral stucco stands out against the shadowed mountain backdrop, complemented by touches of terra cotta, tile roofs and stone accents. This community is part of the rapidly developing suburbs in the mountainous foothills west of Lakewood. As a younger community, Rooney Valley still gleams with immaculate landscaping, from the budding yards with native grasses to pebbled lawns that offer a low-maintenance option. These homes have various layouts of three to seven bedrooms. Rooney Valley homes cost around $1.1 million, and prices reach as high as $1.8 million. Most homes are part of the Solterra community. Rows of townhouses contribute further to the elements of Spanish-style architecture, with tiled roofs touting arched entryways and windows.Extracurricular activities in Jeffco Public Schools
Jeffco Public Schools serves Rooney Valley. Rooney Ranch Elementary School maintains an A-minus overall Niche grade, and 5th-grade students can choose an elective course in mindfulness, STEM or journalism. After graduating from Rooney Ranch, students in grade 6 attend Dustan Middle School, which holds a B-plus overall grade. Students at Dustan contribute to the Patriot Post, a satirical school newspaper with witty headlines and engaging plots. Green Mountain High School also has a B-plus grade and offers students membership in a Dungeons and Dragons club, mountain biking club or an automotive club.Bear Creek Lake Park, Green Mountain Park and Red Rocks Park

Because you can do that in Rooney Valley,” says DD Rockwell, an area local and Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Denver. “Bear Creek Lake Park is right there.” Bear Creek Lake Park spans 2,600 acres and offers campgrounds, hiking trails, horseback riding and beaches at two lakes. Residents can take sunset hikes and bring their canine friends to the dog park in Forsberg Iron Spring Park. From there, locals can jog, cycle or continue the hike on the dirt-packed trails at William Frederick Hayden Green Mountain Park, a wildlife habitat where peaks provide elevated views of the city. Visitors at Red Rocks Park can explore the rock formations and red-stone cliffs. Matthews / Winters Park offers hikes on grassy prairie paths. Coyote Gulch Park borders the neighborhood with relaxing walking trails and a playground.Homeowners have access to all the Solterra community amenities, including the clubhouse known as The Retreat. Neighbors can spend an afternoon under the sun at the pool or grab a seat on the stone steps of the outdoor amphitheater for the latest local event. The neighborhood tennis courts allow ample space to work on the backhand, and kids adore the colorful Kilmer Court playground.
The world-famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre
This neighborhood is only 3 miles east of the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, an outdoor concert venue hosting nationally known acts with seating in a red rock coliseum that amplifies natural acoustic sound. During the fall, locals can check out the Cider Days Festival, an annual harvest celebration featuring apple-flavored treats, a straw bale maze and a petting zoo.Live music on the Morrison Inn rooftop patio
As the community is in the early stages of development, those living in Rooney Valley have semi-limited options for commercial areas and retail. Morrison is a small town outside Red Rocks Park with homey diners and locally owned restaurants. The Cow An Eatery is a family-owned café with soft-serve ice cream, burgers and brunch items. Hungry patrons can order Mexican food at the Morrison Inn, which serves margaritas and tasty queso dishes on a rooftop patio with live music. Residents get groceries at Safeway, 3 miles east on Jewell Avenue. The Foothills Shopping Center is about four miles north, offering another Safeway and small businesses in an outlet area.Getting to Lakewood or Denver

The center of Lakewood is seven miles northeast, and Downtown Denver is 16 miles east on the 6th Avenue Freeway. This neighborhood does not have much access to public transportation. The nearest bus stops are on Jewell Avenue, about three miles east in West Lochwood. The Denver International Airport is 37 miles northeast on the other side of the city.Relocation of Bandimere Speedway
