Living in a quiet Colorado suburb with a recent boom in development
Thraemoor gets its name from the Gaelic word meaning "house on a sunny hill." Although this Lakewood community was once farmland and a cluster of summer cabins, it has evolved into a highly desirable residential area for those wanting to enjoy Denver living without being in the city's center. Properties here range from 20th-century builds to new contemporary constructions, as many developments are happening in the area. Older, often mid-20th-century properties border the new subdivisions, and some newer homes sit right on Ward Reservoir Number 1, giving residents waterfront and mountain-filled views. "It's quiet, established Colorado living," says Lisa Nguyen, a Realtor with RE/MAX Professionals, who lives near the community. "It's one of those areas where everyone knows everyone. They have a HOA board, and the community often gathers for holiday celebrations like morning muffins and coffee on the Fourth of July." With its convenient location, residents here have easy access to nearby shopping centers and green spaces like the Bear Creek Greenbelt, which is popular among both hikers and equestrians. Downtown Denver is less than 10 miles away, giving Thraemoor locals a suburban lifestyle still close to the city.
Craftsman homes, Tudor-inspired constructions and more
Subdivisions make up the Thraemoor area, and many locals here often enjoy HOA benefits. “The city councilman has really been working on redeveloping this area,” says Sean Murphy, a real estate agent with eXp Realty and the host of the popular Somewhere in Colorado YouTube channel. Some newer constructions, like those in Green Gables, offer townhouses with stone accents and Craftsman homes clad with brick features. These homes are packed neatly along curving streets with sidewalks, but lot sizes are still large enough to accommodate backyard dining areas. Front areas here often feature grass and pebbled sections, making yard maintenance much easier. Properties in Lakewood Estates are known for their Tudor-inspired accents and asymmetrical roofs. Tucked beside towering pines, extended ranch-style homes and split-levels line cul-de-sacs in the more established areas. Many of these 1960s to 1980s homes have spacious garages and display farmhouse flair. “These older homes are large in square footage for the time period,” Nguyen says. Condos are also available in this community, and luxury homes border Ward Reservoir's shores, offering sprawling floor plans, private docks and mountain-filled views. Homes in Thraemoor range from upwards of $250,000 for a condo to upwards of $1 million for a larger construction, with the median single-family home price settling around $780,000.

Parks, the Bear Creek Greenbelt and the “unsinkable” Molly Brown’s mansion
For some time outside, locals can head to the Lakewood Estates Park to picnic under leafy trees that were once part of a tree farm. Kids play on the primary-colored playground, and pickleball and tennis enthusiasts challenge their friends to a match on the court. Locals here are also just 7 miles away from the Bear Creek Greenbelt, where they can explore more than 350 acres of preserved land. Hikers experience the transformation from forest to wetlands on both paved and unpaved trails, while equestrians hop on their horses to explore the green space. People craving hilltop views head 6 miles west via Jewell Avenue to trek up the side of Green Mountain. The mountain’s 2,400-acre William Fredrick Hayden Park is the second-largest park in Lakewood, and visitors take in views of the city to the east and mountain peaks to the west. For more recreational opportunities, locals here head to the Lakewood Link Recreation Center, and Green Gables’ residents have their own community clubhouse. Thraemoor also hosts holiday celebrations like morning muffins and coffee for the Fourth of July.
