Rowhouses, duplexes and single-family homes
East King Street divides Conestoga Woods. The northern side of the neighborhood features densely populated residential streets with early 20th-century colorful brick rowhouses, twin duplexes and the occasional single-family home. Properties sit close together, assembled as an extension of the city. Rowhouses range from the mid $100,000s to the mid $200,000s, depending on interior upgrades and square footage. Detached Cape Cods, American Foursquares and 20th-century colonial-style homes can range from the low $300,000s to the mid $500,000s. South of King Street, tree-lined streets give way to a mix of mid-20th-century Cape Cods, split-level, colonial- and ranch-style homes. Properties are typically set back from the road and feature landscaped gardens on roomy lots. Sales prices can range from the mid $300,000s to the upper $400,000s. Other streets showcase 21st-century New Traditionals and colonial-style homes that feature attached two-car garages priced from the low $400,000s to the low $500,000s.Eateries and essentials along King Street
A handful of restaurants are scattered along East King Street. El Cubano serves bold and colorful Cuban sandwiches, while Alice's Diner is known for classic brunch items. Next door, Lancaster Brasserie stands out with its French-inspired American fare like New York strip steak au poivre, a French take on filet mignon drenched in peppercorn sauce. Down the street, Conestoga Restaurant is another hidden gem housed in an old stone inn that overlooks the Conestoga River. A spacious outdoor patio offers a relaxing atmosphere to share a plate of stuffed grape leaves and steamed mussels. Upscale eateries like the Horse Inn and casual spots like Lancaster Brewing Company are less than 2 miles away in Downtown Lancaster.East King Street is also home to Weis Markets, pharmacies and additional small businesses. The city's famous Lancaster Central Market is another popular option for farm-fresh produce, meat and dairy products. “Many residents do opt to shop for local produce and homemade goods, but most residents enjoy a mix of both local offerings and store-bought options,” Hartranft says. Big box retailers such as Costco and Walmart are approximately 2 miles away before reaching the rural Amish countryside dotted with the occasional farmstand.
Recreation at Lancaster County Central Park
Reservoir Park is located north of East King Street. This urban open space features a street hockey rink, basketball courts and a wading pool. The Common Wheel Bicycle Co-Op, located underneath the park's signature water tower, offers youth and adult repair workshops and the Earn A Bike after-school program, where students can learn to fix up and “earn” a bike of their own. The Conestoga River bends along the neighborhood's south side and gives way to protected woodlands, walking trails and green spaces like Holly Point Park. Canopied by tall sugar maple trees, Holly Point features a small playground, swing set and picnic.Along South Conestoga Drive, a small parking lot marks the start of the Conestoga Greenway Trail, which is a paved mile-long path that weaves along the river's banks and ends at South Duke Street. From South Duke Street, Lancaster County Central Park is just across the river, but the river’s narrow bends make it about a 1-mile drive. Central Park is the county's largest park, spanning 544 acres of rolling hills. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool with slides, a skatepark, tennis courts, sports fields and a community garden with small plots available for rent. An environmental center offers outdoor education programs, while nearly ten hiking trails wind around the property. The park is also home to historic sites like Rock Ford Plantation and the Mill Creek Camping Area for a quick staycation.
Lancaster County's Gifted and Talented program
The School District of Lancaster serves the community and scores a C-plus rating on Niche. Prekindergarten through fifth-grade students may attend Burrowes Elementary School, which scores a C on Niche. From there, students can advance to the C-rated Lincoln Middle School and B-minus-rated McCaskey High School. Christine Nolt, a Lancaster County native and Realtor with Kingsway Realty, says families seek homes in the school district because of its Gifted and Talented program. "People have told me they want to be in the school district for their kids. It gives students a lot of opportunities."Two miles to downtown
Bus routes run along East King Street, the community's main thoroughfare, and connect residents to Downtown Lancaster, about 2 miles west. Downtown Lancaster is also home to Lancaster General Hospital and the local Amtrak station. However, many residents depend on their personal vehicles to get around, with nearby roads such as U.S. Route 30 and U.S. Route 222. U.S. Route 30 merges with Pennsylvania State Route 283, which leads about 35 miles northwest to Harrisburg International Airport.Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center is also located in the neighborhood. The center is situated along an isolated plot encircled by densely wooded areas and two long bends of the Conestoga River.
Festivities at Lancaster Central Market
Downtown Lancaster’s seasonal activities are always within reach for Conestoga Woods residents. In addition to selling fresh produce and homemade goods, Lancaster Central Market also hosts the Annual Strawberry Festival. Every June, North Market Street is lined with vendors selling strawberry-themed food. Entertainment options include family-friendly activities, face painting and live music. The market's Harvest Breakfast is another popular event, with pumpkin-painting and fall-themed food like apple cider donuts.
