Community gatherings at Musser Park
Towering trees and a paved walkway surround Musser Park's perimeter, offering shade to benches hidden beneath the canopy. A large fenced-in playground hugs the park's southeast corner, and a grassy field welcomes youngsters, dog walkers and picnickers. Other amenities include small tables with chessboards and a colorful piano for the musically inclined. The Lancaster Museum of Art is housed in a historic Italianate-style Victorian building, featuring rotating exhibits and art classes. The park is a frequent spot for community events like live music, pop-up beer gardens and trick-or-treating. The civic association also helps fund and organize events like the annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July festival, which includes a neighborhood-wide cookout and live music.
Down the road, Reservoir Park features a street hockey rink, basketball courts and a wading pool. The adjacent Common Wheel Bicycle Co-Op offers youth and adult repair workshops and the Earn-A-Bike after-school program, through which students can learn to fix-up and "earn" their own bikes.
Lancaster County Central Park, the city's largest green space, is less than 3 miles from the neighborhood. The Conestoga River is a natural park border, offering winding hiking trails and calm waterways for kayakers and anglers. Additional amenities include a community pool, sports fields and a skate park. Park-goers can wander through The Garden of Five Senses, which offers a peaceful retreat with blooming flowers, a small fountain and a gazebo. Historic rowhouses and single-family homes
An eclectic mix of Colonial, Italianate and Gothic-style rowhomes line canopied city blocks. Some of Musser Park's stunning preserved homes feature original red brick, while others showcase bright blue, yellow, green and white facades. These historic narrow rowhouses typically range from the $200,000s to the mid-$400,000s. Street parking is standard, but some homeowners forgo extra yard space for off-street parking. Nineteenth-century single-family homes with luxury interiors and attached garages are rare and come with a price tag that ranges from the mid-$700,000s to over $1 million. Emlen Urban, Lancaster's leading architect from the 1890s to 1920s, designed several homes in the neighborhood. Multiple coffee shops attract work-from-home crowds with laptops, while others head to Lancaster Brewing Company for happy hour. Set up in an old tobacco warehouse, the brewery features unique craft beers, American fare and a string-lit outdoor patio.
Down the street, Lancaster City’s growing food scene boasts notable high-end restaurants like The Belvedere Inn and Passerine. Surrounded by farmland, Lancaster has a penchant for farm-to-table cuisine, and Passerine is no exception. This small eatery opened its doors in April 2023, and just over a year later, it made the 2024 New York Times list of the best 50 restaurants in the country.
CTown Supermarkets is a modest grocery store within walking distance of the neighborhood. Larger chain grocers are about 1 mile away. However, many residents head about a half-mile to Lancaster Central Market for fresh produce and ingredients. Central Market is the oldest continuously operating public farmers market in the country and features over 60-plus vendors selling meats, cheese and global cuisine. Big-box stores, additional grocers and the Park City Center shopping mall are about 3 miles north near U.S. Route 30.

Students are zoned to the School District of Lancaster, which earns a C-plus rating on Niche. Pre-kindergarteners through fifth graders may attend the C-plus-rated Ross Elementary School. Lincoln Middle School earns a C, and McCaskey High School garners a B-minus rating. McCaskey offers Advanced Placement courses in addition to its world-renowned International Baccalaureate Programme. High schoolers can also earn college credits through dual enrollment programs with partnering institutions such as Millersville University.
