A master-planned community in Land O' Lakes with gated villages

Oakstead, a Pasco County master-planned development, offers gated homes, a neighborhood elementary and community gatherings. "In Oakstead, there is a really nice feeling of belonging and camaraderie. People get together often and sit in front of their garages and talk," says Linda Krauer, an Oakstead resident and employee at the clubhouse. "I have one neighbor that does Tuesday night get-togethers; another neighbor has Wine Wednesdays. You'll see a lot of that out here." The area is a part of Land O' Lakes, a bedroom community for Tampa. When residents are not at work, they enjoy the private clubhouse, outdoor amenities and community events. "The Fun Festival is an annual event open to the whole development. And we have a lot of other activities that bring the community together," Krauer says.

Residents enjoy a private pool and athletic courts

The Oakstead Community Clubhouse offers amenities reserved for HOA members and their guests. "There are tennis courts, pickleball courts and a basketball court. We also have a 165,000-gallon saltwater pool," Krauer says. She also mentions that the pool has an accessible lift for entering and exiting the water. "We have a 2-mile walking path that's full of nature, like bunnies, deer and every once in a while, a bobcat," Krauer says. The Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex, about 7 miles away, has public sporting fields that host local leagues. The Land O' Lake Library is next to the complex.

Oakstead events are held next to the clubhouse

The HOA sponsors several annual events that take place next to the clubhouse. "Octoberfest is a big event for kids. We ask for a small donation to help give out pumpkins and have hayrides. There are all sorts of games to play and a petting zoo," Krauer says. The Family Funday Festival is a well-loved event at the start of the summer. "There's music on the deck. And for the children, we have two large water slides on the baseball fields," Krauer says. The community has a New Year's Eve party every few years. "In the spring, we have an easter egg hunt, dye eggs and the kids can take pictures with the Easter Bunny," Krauer says.

Dining at Fuzzy's Taco Shop and The Brass Tap

Fuzzy's Taco Shop is near the community's entrance on State Road 54. Further down the roadway are businesses and retail spaces like The Shoppes at Sunlake Centre. Oakstead contains nine villages

Oakstead's main roads are accessible, but homes are tucked away behind private gates. "We are a 9-village development, and seven are single-family villages. There are two that we call 'villa villages,' with semi-attached, maintenance-free housing," Krauer says. Some of the largest, most expensive homes are inside the Strathmore Place and Ballastone villages. "Brentford has a lot of children. People love watching the kids go trick-or-treating and having fun in their costumes," Krauer says. Residences over 3,000 square feet range in price from $825,000 to $1 million. Smaller houses can cost between $340,000 and $600,000. The attached dwellings range in price from $300,000 to $360,000.
