Life is simple in Landisville, a small farm-town suburb, ranked the best place to buy a home in the Lancaster area by Niche. That’s precisely what led Tim Sosin and his wife, Hannah, to this peaceful community. “We love the quiet simplicity of Landisville,” says Sosin. “We were drawn to a quieter area of Lancaster where there wasn’t a lot going on, where there was room to breathe, and Landisville fits that balance really well.”
In Landisville, you’ll find yourself living in a peaceful suburban development surrounded by the farmland of Lancaster County’s rural countryside. The town features an eclectic mix of homes, whether you want to settle down in a piece of history or something more modern. If you’re looking for historic charm, you can make yourself at home in a renovated 1800s farmhouse for around $300,000. Other areas feature a variety of single-family homes from the mid-1900s such as ranch-style and split-level houses ranging primarily from $250,000 to $400,000. Those seeking a newer house can get a large contemporary craftsman-style home with an attached garage in a housing development for around $500,000 to $700,000.
Sosin adds that he enjoys living near Amos Herr Park. With several recreational activities available, the 56-acre park is great for those who like to get active. Grab a group of friends to play a pickup basketball game or to hit the beach volleyball court, among other public sports facilities. Kids can also have fun playing on the large, barn-themed wooden playground. And when its time to cool off, head to the Landisville Pool, which has been giving locals a place to swim since 1962.
Kindergarten through third-grade students attend Landisville Primary Center. They go on to Landisville Intermediate Center, Landisville Middle School and Hempfield High School. The high school has an A- rating from Niche and ranked the 75th-best college prep public high school in the state. It’s also renowned for its theater program, boasting a 1,300-seat Performing Arts Center.
While Main Street is mostly residential, it’s where you’ll find the town’s few local businesses. Early birds will enjoy the two breakfast and brunch restaurants. For your classic American breakfast, stop by the homey atmosphere of Miss Calee’s. Or, visit Jake’s on Main when you’re in the mood for more experimental breakfast foods, such as their honey bourbon pancakes and street corn omelette.
“It’s the perfect spot for easy passage to everywhere while still enjoying the small town-town farm feel,” says Sosin. “We love being close to great local farms and markets.”
Just north of Landisville, on the other side of Route 283, you’re immersed in the beautiful farmland of Lancaster County where you can shop from local markets. Stop by Spooky Nook Produce & Greenhouse for farm fresh produce and a wide variety of flowers. Be sure to come on Saturdays from May through October for homemade barbecue chicken and dipped ice cream from Kreider’s Dairy Farm.
If you prefer shopping at big box stores, you have plenty to choose from just six miles away, closer to Downtown Lancaster.
While close to the city and the rural countryside, the simple town of Landisville is a happy medium between the two environments, which is just one of the many reasons why it’s considered the best place to buy a home in the Lancaster area.
