Approximately 3 miles south, Potter Park Zoo is another attraction, with more than 350 animals, including big cats and safari wildlife.
Wetland trails and a municipal golf couse
The Tollgate Wetlands has boardwalk paths, which lead to a scenic 1-mile route through wetland habitats home to blue herons and deer. Also nearby, the Lansing River Trail is a paved path over 20 miles along the Grand River. Marshall Park features a playground and athletic fields. The Groesbeck Golf Course is an 18-hole municipal course that won the 2024 community’s choice award for best golf course in Lansing. One community landmark is the Foster Community Center, which has been open since the 1980s. It has a public library, fitness classes, and after-school childcare programs. STEM and IB programs at local schools
Riddle Elementary School earns a C from Niche with interactive lessons incorporating technology and peer-to-peer learning. Pattengill Academy has a C-minus and a STEM curriculum with state-of-the-art labs. Eastern Lansing High School receives a C and offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) program with coursework in biology and medicine. Michigan State University (MSU) is only about 2 miles east. It offers highly ranked bachelor’s degrees in education and supply chain management.
CATA and SR-43 to Downtown Lansing
The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is the local bus system with fixed routes and on-demand service. Downtown Lansing is approximately 3 miles west on state Route 43. Grand Rapids is about 70 west on Interstate 96, while Detroit is roughly 90 miles east. Capital Region International Airport (LAN) provides passenger flights about 5 miles northwest.
