Flynn is budget-friendly with access to shopping, healthcare & travel
In Flynn, a small subdivision in northeast Laredo, breeze block walls line the fronts of ranch-style homes, palm and cedar elm trees dot the patchy front lawns and sidewalks border residential roads. It’s more affordable than nearby communities, yet residents can easily reach downtown and more. Located near Mall del Norte, Laredo Medical Center and Laredo International Airport, the neighborhood offers easy access to everyday necessities.
Most homes date to the 1960s and 1970s and rarely hit the market
Ranch-style homes from the 1960s and 1970s line Flynn’s streets. These houses rarely come on the market. According to a Homes.com calculation, which uses a combination of estimate data, the average home value in late 2025 was about $190,000—roughly $100,000 less than the Laredo metro area average. About 75% of residents rent, and apartment complexes sit in the neighborhood’s northern section.
Restaurants, big-box stores and Mall del Norte within a short drive
McPherson Road, along the neighborhood’s western border, has dining options, including Mal Matcha Café and Suarez Restaurant, as well as other businesses, like a pharmacy, an auto parts store, a florist and a tattoo parlor. H-E-B, about 2 miles away, is the closest grocery store. Mall del Norte, also about 2 miles away, offers entertainment like Chuck E. Cheese and Cinemark, retailers such as H&M and Bath & Body Works and restaurants including Red Lobster and Olive Garden. Across Interstate 35 from the mall, big-box stores include Sam’s Club, The Home Depot and Walmart.
Public schools earn solid grades with early college opportunities
The United Independent School District serves Flynn. Newman Elementary School gets a B-plus from Niche, Clark Middle School gets a B and John B. Alexander High School earns a B-plus. The JB Alexander High School Early College Academy lets students earn an associate degree alongside their diploma. Students can also apply those credits toward a bachelor’s degree.
Small neighborhood parks and a state park just minutes away
Featuring shaded play areas, the neighborhood’s Ponderosa Park, within walking distance of most homes, is small. Chaparral Park, just outside the neighborhood, is slightly larger, and features a basketball court, paved walking path, shaded playgrounds and open green space. Nearby Vietnam Veterans Plaza, opened in 2024, includes a mini golf course and food truck park, while the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library hosts community events throughout the year. Baseball and soccer fields are also close to Flynn. For a larger outdoor experience, Lake Casa Blanca International State Park is about 5 miles away. The 525-acre park is popular for hiking, boating and fishing.
Interstate 35 and Route 59 make commuting convenient
Laredo International Airport is about 5 miles east, and Laredo Medical Center is less than a mile south. This proximity may be noisy. El Metro Transit buses are within reach, and Interstate 35 and Route 59 are easily accessible. Downtown Laredo is about 5 miles away.
