Peaceful neighborhood surrounded by Lake Casa Blanca
Cradled by Lake Casa Blanca to the south and a major thoroughfare and airport to the west, Laredo’s Lakeside community blends big-city amenities with laid-back lake living. It’s conveniently located 2 miles from downtown Laredo, but residents enjoy a peaceful lifestyle away from a noisy, congested city with the buffer of a state park. “It’s a very welcoming lake community,” says Chris C. Walters, Broker and former Realtor. Walters has lived in Argyle, Texas, since 2017 and runs LakeHub.com, a platform dedicated to spotlighting over 100 lake communities for over 25 years. “You can live on the lake, and if you need to commute or want to get to entertainment or nice restaurants, you’re right there.”
The 525-acre Lake Casa Blanca International State Park is the crown jewel
Casa Blanca Lake and the surrounding 525-acre Lake Casa Blanca International State Park are popular with boaters, fishers, hikers and jet skiers alike. “It’s a family-friendly lake that’s good for catfish and bass fishing,” says Walters. “You can also swim; my wife and I will even go out on the boat on a weeknight sometimes.” The lake is accessible from the park and offers a boat ramp and fishing pier. In addition to water activities, the park has a baseball field, volleyball, basketball courts and four trails frequented by thousands of butterflies migrating in the warmer months. “It’s very popular with hikers and trail runners,” Walters says. Lake Casa International State Park also has campsites for those who want to do an overnight or weekend adventure. “It gets full in the summertime, so you got to get there early, but it has a cool little cove popular for hanging out,” he says. The nearby Casa Blanca Golf Course is a public, 18-hole course where beginner and seasoned golfers can practice their swing. Alexander Park is 3 miles north of the community, which offers a playground, walking paths and plenty of space for a picnic.

Lakefront homes for up to $1 million
Tree-lined streets give way to stately, Spanish and Mediterranean-style two-story homes, with a few modern homes sprinkled in. Most homes were built in the early 2010s and range from the mid-$400,000s for three-bedroom homes starting at around 2,600 square feet to mid-$800,000s for a five-bedroom home over 5,000 square feet. However, for those with a larger budget, a few homes over $1 million are close or right on the lake. “We’ve seen this huge increase in traffic,” says Walters. “You can find new construction. It’s become a very desirable place to live.” Lakeside has homeowners’ association fees priced at $50 per month. Homes here stay on the market for an average of 73 days, and the median price for a single-family home is $370,000, 36% higher than inside the city. Homes have multi-car garages and spacious, paved driveways for boats or other toys. “There’s also a community boat ramp, and a lot of the houses have been remodeled,” he says. Most lot sizes are around 9.800 square feet, but some can stretch over a quarter acre. Fenced-in yards surround well-kept lawns with pools. Some higher-end homes offer balconies and private docks with lake views. While Lakeside residents enjoy lake views and easy access to amenities with its proximity to Route 59, it is next to the Laredo International Airport, so there will be some airport noise.

Fourth of July celebrations to birdwatching and an indoor mercado
Fourth of July celebrations are the most popular event in Lakeside. Residents can catch fireworks at Lake Casa Balance International State Park or watch them shoot up over the water from their balconies. In the cooler months, Lake Casa Blanca State International Park offers regular hikes on the Mesquite Bend Trail and birdwatching tours. In the warmer months, the park hosts night hikes and summer kayaking classes. The Laredo International Fair & Exposition venue, home to the annual Laredo Fair, is a 5-mile drive away. A tradition every February for over 60 years, the fair features live country music, rodeos, livestock shows and carnival vendors. The exposition is a non-profit that also partners with 4-H Clubs, Future Farmers of America clubs and other local organizations to provide education camps, agricultural programs and a youth ambassador program.
The Laredo International Sister Cities Festival is one of the city’s most popular events. Held in July at the Sames Auto Arena, the three-day celebration offers an indoor market filled with a variety of artisans from Mexico who sell hand-made jewelry, clothing, food, and other items. “It’s very popular. We celebrated 20 years of the festival this past July,” says Ana Reyna Arzate, Marketing Coordinator for the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We have 200 booths operated by coming from Mexico and Latin America to sell their products. We have food and cultural entertainment from Mexico, and this year, we had 20,0000 people attend over the three days.”
Birdwatching in the city has become so popular since the city is a major route for migratory birds in the warmer months that it celebrates with the annual Laredo Birding Festival. Held every February, hobbyists can catch hundreds of species of birds at this celebration.
Nine miles from downtown Laredo
Route 59 and Bob Bullock Loop intersect in the neighborhood. Residents can reach Laredo International Airport in 2 miles and the city center in 9 miles. Bus stops aren’t within walking distance, but public transit does serve the area.
