Next to the Rio Grande with newer homes
Riverhill is aptly named, overlooking the Rio Grande to the west and set on a small incline above the river. Six miles south of downtown Laredo, the neighborhood has a few businesses on the eastern edge, on Zapata Highway, but is mostly residential. “The community is starting to see more of an expansion,” says Baeza. “The city is expanding and growing more east and north.” Riverhill is one example of that expansion, with the continuing grid-planning of downtown Laredo combined with more recently built homes. The Ricardo Molina Middle School recently opened as well, and the United Independent School District continues to work on building more schools to match the number of residents moving into the area.
Riverhill is on the shore of the Rio Grande.

Stucco and Spanish Colonial elements to the north
Riverhill is a newer neighborhood with housing that reflects that. Most residences were built after 2000, with the common style being New Traditional with fenced-in backyards. Homes often have stucco or Spanish Colonial influences, and are often single-story. Some may have trees to provide shade, but it is not a guarantee for every house. Prices range from $150,000 to $230,000 depending on the amount of square footage a home may have. Backyard pools occasionally appear as ways to combat the Texas heat, but are not common amenities. On Buckwheat and Buckeye Drive, manufactured homes sit close together and often have privacy fences around the entire property. Prices for these homes range from $70,000 to $96,000. Part of the neighborhood is comprised of apartments, with the Rio Grande Ranch Apartments a gated complex sitting on the southern edge of the neighborhood.
Homes with Spanish influenced elements and stucco exteriors are plentiful in Riverhill.
You can expect to pay up to $230K for the larger New Traditional homes in Riverhill.

The El Eden Recreation Center will host activities and events throughout the year, such as costume contests during Halloween. Throughout February, the Washington Birthday Celebration has carnivals and festivals, including a Jalapeño Festival. “The looks on their faces say it all when they finish,” Baeza says.
Brand new middle school in UISD
Riverhill is part of the United Independent School District. Students begin at John Arndt Elementary School, which earns a C-plus from Niche. Beginning in 2022, students attended the newly built Ricardo Molina Middle School. “The district is growing pretty quickly,” says Baeza. “There’s a lot of places for growth.” The middle school does not have a Niche score at the moment. L.B. Johnson High School receives a B from Niche and contains the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Innovative Academy.
