In far southern Largo, the quiet, suburban community of Del Prado is tucked away enough to avoid through-traffic, but close enough to commercial areas to make life convenient. “We’re a family-oriented community, and we put on events throughout the year, like our Christmas decorating contest and block party,” says Joel Porter, a Coldwell Banker Realtor and the Del Prado HOA president. “It’s that kind of friendly neighborhood.”
Tucked into the far southern edge of Largo, Del Prado is a peaceful, close-knit suburban enclave. It’s sheltered from through-traffic, yet just minutes from shopping and dining, striking the perfect balance between tranquility and convenience.

Classic Floridian New Traditionals and ranch-style homes
This community is made up mostly by several subdivisions, including Del Prado, Hillcrest Manor and Alston Heights. Home here are mostly New Traditional or ranch-style block construction, with Spanish/Mediterranean or Contemporary design details. Sale prices typically start under $500,000 and rise to about $750,000. Larger option on bigger spreads can sell for more than $1 million.
Wind damage is a concern during hurricane season, but flooding is rare. “It’s close to the beach, but not in a flood zone, which is great because you don’t pay flood insurance,” Porter says. Del Prado’s CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Most homes in Del Prado are ranch-style block construction, with Spanish and Mediterranean or Contemporary design details.
Some homes in Del Prado feature large lots with over an acre of property, which is not typical for the area.

Walsingham Park, Florida Botanical Gardens and more nearby
Walsingham Park is a 354-acre outdoor recreation space just a couple miles away. A 6-mile-long paved trail circles the lake, where visitors can fish for crappie, bluegill and sunshine bass. There’s also a playground and a dog park, as well as picnic areas with grills. The Seminole Junior Warhawks Athletic Association Soccer & Baseball Complex, at the park’s north end, hosts youth team practices and games. Florida Botanical Gardens, also nearby, is a 100-acre park with 26 different sections of flora, like a native plant garden and a rose garden. The Jazz Garden showcases plants that mimic the music style’s movement. The Majeed Discovery Garden has playful and educational elements, like a sensory garden and an outdoor classroom. The public, 18-hole Largo Golf Course is just a couple miles from most homes, and gulf-front beaches in the neighboring city of Indian Rocks Beach are less than 5 miles away.
Locals come to enjoy a stroll through the Palm Garden at Florida Botanical Gardens, not far from Del Prado.

The Pinellas County Schools district allows school choice. Del Prado is zoned to Oakhurst Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche, and Seminole Middle, which gets a B. Seminole High scores a B-plus. The high school offers several specialty programs, including the Academy for the Advanced Achievement in the Arts, also known as the “4A” Academy. The four As represent each pillar of the arts: dramatic, visual, vocal and instrumental.
Del Prado kids will attend Oakhurst Elementary School in Largo.

Close to Indian Rocks Beach seafood, Walsingham Road shopping/dining
“Del Prado is really close to the seafood restaurants on the beaches,” Porter says. He recommends the Original Crabby Bills, a family-owned spot Indian Rocks Beach. “It’s a little touristy, but very good,” he says. Walsingham Road has more dining options, including Forchetta, an Italian joint, and Savory Restaurant, known for casual Italian, American and Greek fare. Shopping centers on the busy corridor are filled with fitness studios, beauty salons, banks and retailers like Walmart Neighborhood Market and Publix.
Proino Breakfast Club is a popular lunch and brunch destination not far from Del Prado.

PSTA bus routes and car travel times
Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority provides bus service to the area, with routes running from stops on Oakhurst Road and Walsingham Road to destinations like Largo Mall and HCA Florida Largo West Hospital. The hospital, about 3 miles away, is a less-than-10-minute drive with no traffic. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, about 11 miles northeast, is about a 25-minute drive via Walsingham Road/State Road 688. Tampa International Airport, across the bay, is just over 20 miles away. The drive takes under 40 minutes without traffic on Interstate 275.
Take a nice walk or bike ride across the Belleair Causeway Bridge to the beautiful beaches near Del Prado.
St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport serves Pinellas County and Del Prado.
