Ridgecrest is a peaceful neighborhood near Largo amenities
Ridgecrest is a quaint, residential neighborhood in the heart of Largo. However, its central location means that people can take advantage of all of the city’s amenities. “Largo has got a great city park, and lots of festivals,” says Realtor Matt Brooks with the Closings for Everyone team at Realty Experts, Inc., who has been working in Pinellas County for about 10 years. The neighborhood is also part of the highly rated Pinellas County School District, which earns an A-minus from Niche.
Ranch-style homes at lower prices are outside of flood zones
Sidewalks line Ridgecrest’s gridded streets, where homes from the mid-to-late 20th century are close together. Most properties are a quarter of an acre or less, with grassy lawns and driveways that often lead to one-car garages. Ranch-style houses with stucco or block exteriors are common. “Median prices are pretty low,” Brooks says. “It’s a good place for first-time homebuyers.” Most homes cost $200,000 to $380,000.
According to First Street, Ridgecrest has an extreme risk of hurricanes, but only a minor risk of flooding. “In that Ridgecrest area, you’re in one of the higher points in Pinellas,” Brooks says.
Students attend magnet programs at well-rated Pinellas County Schools
Students attend Pinellas County Schools. Ridgecrest Elementary earns an A-minus from Niche, while Seminole Middle School scores a B. The A-minus-rated Largo High has two magnet programs: International Baccalaureate and Exploring Careers and Education in Leadership. The latter uses projects and hands-on experiences to build college and career readiness. Besides magnet programs, the district’s school choice options include fundamental programs and Special Assignment Requests, which allow students to attend schools outside of their zoning.
John S. Taylor Park and the Florida Botanical Gardens are nearby
John S. Taylor Park spans over 150 acres next to the neighborhood. Besides having a baseball field and a disc golf course, the park also has a freshwater lake stocked with fish. It connects to the Pinellas Trail, a 45-mile-long multiuse trail that goes through the county. There is a smaller lake at Ridgecrest Park, which also has an accessible playground. The Florida Botanical Gardens are nearby and host events like plant sales and educational demonstrations. During the holidays, the gardens are decorated with over 1 million lights. The Greater Ridgecrest YMCA is in the neighborhood. Its amenities include a pool, fitness center, sports leagues and after-school programs. The Largo Golf Course, about 2 miles away, is an 18-hole course that is open to the public.
Shops, restaurants and Largo Plaza are within 3 miles of Ridgecrest
Because of its central location, Ridgecrest is within 2 to 3 miles of most shops and restaurants in Largo. C&J’s BBQ is a food truck that sets up in the neighborhood, with a menu that includes ribs and pulled pork. Brooks recommends the nearby Havana Harry’s Market. “There’s a good place for Cuban sandwiches,” Brooks says. The Fresh Market Farmers Market is every Saturday from September through May. Vendors sell produce, baked goods and artisan crafts. The closest grocery store is Publix. It is in the Paradise Shops of Largo, which also has a Home Depot. Largo Plaza is a shopping mall about 2 miles away, which has chain restaurants, a movie theater and major retailers like Target and Burlington.
Residents attend Largo concert series and holiday celebrations
Largo puts on several events for residents to attend. These range from recurring activities – like the Concert Series on the Breezeway, which is one Friday a month from October to April at the Largo Golf Course – to annual celebrations. These include events like the Fourth of July, which has live music, food and craft vendors and a fireworks show, and the holiday tree lighting with carolers and a market.
State Route 688 makes traveling across the city simple
Most residents drive themselves. State Route 688 goes through Ridgecrest, making it easy to travel across Largo. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority’s buses go through the neighborhood. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is about 9 miles away and has over 60 nonstop destinations. HCA Florida Largo West Hospital is about 3 miles away, but there are several others within a 5-mile radius.
