Ulmerton has industry and modest homes tucked away along a major road
With a mix of housing options among industry and businesses along Ulmerton Road, Ulmerton is an unassuming Largo neighborhood tucked behind a main thoroughfare. In Ulmerton, ranch-style homes in small subdivisions dot the characteristically flat terrain of Florida's west coast. Residents of this part of town are within a 15-minute drive of miles of pristine beaches along the Gulf Coast. In addition to having basic conveniences like Walmart and Starbucks within the neighborhood, Ulmerton is within a 30-minute drive of state-of-the-art medical facilities, two international airports and cultural options in cities like Tampa.
Pockets of ranch-style homes and townhouses
Pockets of homes are clustered on the eastern side of the neighborhood. Small subdivisions have quiet, dead-end streets lined with modest homes and shade trees. The area's ranch-style single-family houses typically sell for between $350,000 and $550,000, while townhouses go for between $235,000 and $330,000. Most properties were built between the 1970s and early 2000s. The area is also home to the Yankee Traveler, a mobile home community and RV park for long- and short-term residents. "There's not really any name recognition in this area, but they still have some nice communities [off Ulmerton Road]," says Barbara Brockwell, Realtor at The Brockwell Group in Largo.
Quick drives to the Gulf Coast and Largo Central Park
Ulmerton is several miles inland, so it's not in a flood zone, but residents are only about a 15-minute drive to the beach. The Belleair Bridge takes residents from Largo to Belleair Beach and Indian Rocks Beach. "That's how close you are to these really fabulous homes and amenities. Everyone gets to use the same parks, ocean, golfing, boat ramps," Brockwell says. Belleair Beach has resident-only parking, but Indian Rocks Beach and other beaches along the miles of coastline along Gulf Boulevard have public parking. Largo Central Park is also only 3 miles northwest of Ulmerton, and has 70 acres of trails, manicured lawns and fields, and an accessible playground. The Florida Botanical Gardens also has native plants, a rose garden, butterfly garden and more about 3 miles from the neighborhood. For muggy summer days, Dink House Pickleball has indoor courts in Ulmerton.
Industry and restaurants branching off Ulmerton Road
Much of the neighborhood's landscape consists of warehouses and other commercial buildings. "Ulmerton has historically been a bit more industrial. It's less residential than North Largo," Brockwell says. In addition to industrial and office spaces on the neighborhood's west side and just north, there are several conveniences in Ulmerton, including a Walmart Neighborhood Market, 7-Eleven and Starbucks. There are also more casual, local restaurants nearby along Ulmerton Road, including Finley's Irish Pub & Eatery, a relaxed hangout spot serving fried seafood, sandwiches and wraps, and Thai 5 Restaurant & Sushi Bar, serving classics like pad Thai and drunken noodles.
Kids are zoned for Pinellas County Schools
Students living in the neighborhood may begin at Walsingham Elementary School before continuing to Osceola Middle School and Pinellas Park High School. All three schools earn B grades from Niche. In addition to offering 20 Advanced Placement courses and nine dual enrollment courses, Pinellas Park High School gives students the opportunity to participate in the criminal justice or first responders magnet programs.
Traveling to Tampa and Clearwater from Ulmerton
The area is largely car dependent, though the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority does have bus routes along Ulmerton Road and around the region. Missouri Avenue takes drivers into Clearwater in under 20 minutes, and Interstate 275 connects drivers across Old Tampa Bay into downtown Tampa in about 30 minutes. Ulmerton is within a quick drive of several facilities: the neighborhood is less than 6 miles from Morton Plant Hospital and less than 4 miles from HCA Florida Largo Hospital. Tampa International Airport is 22 miles east, and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is 6 miles east.
