Walsingham is a Largo suburb with large homes near Seminole amenities

Walsingham feels like a classic Largo suburb, with parks, schools and shops nearby. But what really sets it apart is its housing. “You’ve got some larger homes in Walsingham,” says Matt Brooks, Seminole resident and Realtor with the Closings for Everyone team at Realty Experts, Inc. These homes are a short walk from the expansive Walsingham Park, which spans over 350 acres, and the Florida Botanical Gardens. Students attend the highly rated Pinellas County School District, which earns an A-minus from Niche. Within 3 miles, shoppers can explore the major retailers at Seminole City Center or Largo Plaza.

Large homes have midcentury and Mediterranean influences

Palm trees and tropical landscaping decorate the Walsingham's grassy lawns, where lots are often half an acre or less. A variety of ranch-style homes, some featuring midcentury influences with pitched roofs, make up most of the older properties, while New Traditional styles with Mediterranean influences are common in newer houses. The average size of a single-family home is almost 2,300 square feet, about 350 square feet larger than the national average. Smaller homes typically cost between $300,000 and $630,000; properties exceeding 2,000 square feet range from $700,000 to $1.2 million. Prices generally range from $390,000 to $450,000 in the townhouse community off Walsingham Road.

While First Street says that Walsingham has an extreme risk of hurricanes, most of the neighborhood has a minor to moderate risk of flooding.

Students attend well-rated Pinellas County schools

As part of Pinellas County Schools, students can start at Fuguitt Elementary, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Seminole Middle and Seminole High schools receive a B. The high school’s magnet programs include the E-commerce Academy, a student-led curriculum that focuses on online business. The district offers school choice through magnet programs and Special Assignment Requests, which allow students to attend schools outside of their assigned zoning area.

Walsingham Park and the Florida Botanical Gardens are in the area

Walsingham Park is an expansive green space with a 100-acre fishing lake at its center. There is also a dog park, playground and outdoor fitness equipment along a paved trail. At the Florida Botanical Gardens, there are 26 different areas for people to explore, including a palm garden. The kid-focused Majeed Discovery Garden has an outdoor classroom, playground and potting station. “When the weather is nice, you can get out on the [Pinellas] Trail,” Brooks says. Part of this 47-mile-long multiuse trail goes through the neighborhood. Walsingham is about 2 miles away from Lake Seminole and about 5 miles from the beaches at Indian Shores.

Residents shop at nearby Seminole City Center and Largo Plaza

Because of its central location, Walsingham is near some of Seminole and Largo’s largest retail and dining options. Within the neighborhood is Walsingham Commons, a shopping center with a Publix and a Family Dollar. Savory Restaurant is an American bistro with pet-friendly outdoor seating. People can order cakes, cookies and desserts from The Pie Factory, most known for its key lime pie. Seminole City Center is about 3 miles away, with major retailers like Five Below and casual chains like Outback Steakhouse. For more options, people shop at Largo Plaza. The mall is about 2 miles away and has Target and a movie theater. Craft, produce and food vendors set up at the Fresh Harvest Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, which is less than 1 mile away.

Seminole and Largo have full event calendars

Seminole and Largo each have a full calendar of events. “It is a great area,” Brooks says. “They’ve got something going on multiple times a week.” Both cities host recurring events, such as concert series and movie nights in the park. Seminole’s annual events include the Holiday Sail-a-Bration, where decorated boats on wheels replace traditional parade floats. In Largo, residents look forward to the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

Walsingham is a car-dependent community about 3 miles from Seminole

Most residents rely on cars to get around. U.S. Route 19 Alternate goes along the neighborhood’s eastern border and leads 3 miles to Seminole. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority buses ride on the highway. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is about 10 miles away and has over 60 nonstop destinations. The closest emergency room is about a 4-mile drive, at HCA Florida Largo West Hospital.
