El Paseo
Ranch-style homes with a suburban feel
Most homes here are brick ranch-style houses, set in subdivisions like Crescent Park that have cul-de-sacs and curving, sidewalk-lined streets. “They’re older homes from the 1960s and ‘70s, and they’re on the smaller side, 1,200 to 1,500 square feet,” says Ronald Leone, an associate broker with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Steinborn & Associates who’s lived in the area since 2001.Paved two-car driveways lead to attached garages, and yards are landscaped with manicured grass or low-water plantings. In the Heritage Farm subdivision, 21st-century Southwestern-style homes typically have stucco exteriors and flat roofs. Lot sizes vary from an eighth to a third of an acre, determining prices that range from around $230,000 to $470,000. Multi-family properties with two to seven units range from around $220,000 to $1.1 million. Low-rise apartment complexes are available to renters.
Along El Paseo Road
El Paseo Road is the neighborhood's main road, leading 2 miles to downtown Las Cruces. Interstate 10 is nearby and leads about 44 miles to El Paso. The fare-free Roadrunner bus stops throughout the neighborhood, and many streets are lined with sidewalks and bike lanes. The closest hospital is Memorial Medical Center, about 3 miles away. El Paseo Road is lined with shopping and dining. Retailers range from Cowtown Boots to Ross Dress for Less, and though most restaurants are fast-food chains, locally owned spots include Burritos Victoria, known for their signature supersized megaburritos, and Dion’s Pizza, which offers dine-in and delivery. Valley Drive is close by, with local favorites like Chilitos, a mainstay for Mexican food since 1997, and Old Mesilla Pastry Café’s The Shed, the go-to for brunch since 1995. Nearby grocery stores include Albertsons and Walmart.Rentable plots at the Tony Gomez Community Garden
The 10-acre Frenger Park has a playground and grassy meadow, while nearby, the roughly 12-acre Gomez Park offers more green space and a community garden with rentable plots. At the Munson Senior Center, residents over 50 can take art and fitness classes or relax in the center’s park.Route 28, which begins where Idaho Avenue meets Main Street, is a popular recreational biking route between Las Cruces and El Paso. “Las Cruces has a humongous cycling community,” says Luis Larrinua, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who’s sold homes here for 12 years. Several indoor gyms, like Planet Fitness on Paseo Road, offer indoor recreation when the weather’s too hot to get outside.
The Performing Dance Club at Las Cruces High
Local kids can start school at Valley View Elementary, which earns a C from Niche, and then attend the C-plus-rated Zia Middle. At the B-rated Las Cruces High, students can join the Performing Dance Club; at 25 years old, it’s one of the longest-running clubs at the school, attracting up to 100 participants each year who dance at sports and community events. Nearby private schools include the A-minus-rated Mesilla Valley Christian for kindergarten through Grade 12. New Mexico State University, less than a mile away, enrolls nearly 15,000 students in around 180 degree programs. The Holiday Bazaar at the Las Cruces Convention Center
The nearby Las Cruces Convention Center hosts a range of events throughout the year, like the Holiday Bazaar in December, a three-day market with over 100 vendors, and Las Cruces Comic Con in August, a two-day celebration of comics and pop culture with costume contests and celebrity appearances. In a Special Flood Hazard Area
