Fairacres
Manufactured homes surrounded by farmland
Fairacres’ pecan orchards, dirt roads and large lots—ranging from a quarter-acre to 3 acres—give the neighborhood a rural feel. Most yards embrace the desert landscape and have views of the distant Organ Mountains. Manufactured homes are common, typically surrounded by chain link fencing or low stone walls. Ranch-style homes were built between the 1960s and 2020s, with Pueblo Revival-style details like flat roofs and stucco exteriors. The neighborhood doesn't have many houses to begin with, and the few that are here hardly ever hit the market; that said, five homes were sold between late 2023 and late 2024. Prices for those five homes ranged from around $110,000 to $470,000, depending on their updates and acreage. The Las Cruces-Mayfield football rivalry
Local kids can start school at Fairacres Elementary and then attend Picacho Middle; both earn a C-plus from Niche. Students north of Picacho Avenue are zoned for the B-minus-rated Mayfield High, while those to the south can go to B-rated Las Cruces High. The two high schools are rivals, and the annual matchup between their football teams draws crowds from across the community.Near Interstate 10
Picacho Avenue is Fairacres’ main road, leading roughly 4 miles to downtown Las Cruces. Interstate 10 borders the neighborhood to the south and is the main route to El Paso, 48 miles away. With no public transportation, bike lanes or sidewalks, locals rely on their cars to get around. Three Crosses Regional Hospital is about 6 miles away. Las Cruces International Airport, a general aviation airport that has commercial flights to Albuquerque, is 5 miles away, and El Paso International Airport is a 55-mile trip.Live music at Picacho Peak Brewing Company
At Picacho Peak Brewing Company, diners can relax with house-brewed beers and burgers while listening to live music. Elephant Ranch Bar is another local hangout, with an outdoor bar serving craft cocktails. Nearby, Valley Pizza has been a neighborhood favorite since 2006. Downtown Las Cruces’ restaurants and shops are about 4 miles away, and each Saturday and Wednesday, the Farmers and Crafts Market fills downtown with over 200 vendors. Valley Drive nearby has national retailers like Tractor Supply Company and grocery stores like Save Mart and Walmart.Floating on the Rio Grande
The Rio Grande borders the neighborhood, and while it’s dry most of the year, summer irrigation fills the river enough for outdoor activities. “There’s lots of trail riding and river floating, but not too much fishing happening there,” Montanez says. The 5-acre La Llorona Park includes a playground and the paved, 5-mile La Llorona Trail along the river, which is popular with cyclists and joggers. At the 13,000-acre Picacho Peak Recreation Area, hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders can explore over 15 miles of trails with city and mountain views. The Mesilla Valley Maze
Each autumn, Lyles Farms unveils its annual Mesilla Valley Maze, a giant corn maze that's surrounded by the farm's pumpkin and zinnia fields and draws crowds from all over the region. Each October, the Fall Festival and the New Mexico Pumpkin Festival bring out families for live music, pie eating contests and games.
