Teens attend the B-rated Centennial High, which offers over 30 clubs and extracurriculars, including archery, board games and Dungeons & Dragons.Neighborhood parks and desert mountain hiking
There are a handful of parks throughout the neighborhood, including several within master-planned Providence. The 15-acre Knickerbocker Park is Providence’s largest, offering a covered playground, playing fields and a splash pad that’s popular for cooling down when summer temperatures top 100 degrees. There’s also The Promenade, a garden and walking park with a tree-shaded half-mile trail. Nearby, Gilcrease Brothers Park offers sports like horseshoe, bocce and shuffleboard. “You get a lot of outdoorsy people here,” Sandoval says. “You’re getting up in the mountains which offers summer activities like mountain biking and a lot more stuff going on up there.” Lone Mountain Regional Park is less than a mile away, with panoramic views of the surrounding Mojave Desert and dirt-packed trails shared by hikers, bikers and horseback riders. The park’s popular for wildlife viewing, and birders can try to spot native avians like Gila woodpeckers, turkey vultures and prairie falcons here. Sandoval recommends Gilcrease Orchard, 5 miles away, for a day out. “It’s a large apple orchard that’s a pretty little place to take your family,” Sandoval says.Community events and classes for locals
The city occasionally hosts community events in the area, like tree-plantings and clean-ups at Gilcrease Brothers Park or Movie in the Park nights at Knickerbocker Park. Four miles away, there are children’s programs at Cimarron Rose Center, including Messy Hands, an arts program, and The Fun Zone for early childhood play and learning; adults can sign up for weekly classes, like ceramics, ballet and yoga. Seasonal events are hosted here, too, like the Halloween Spooktacular with trick-or-treating, food and plenty of spooky activities, including a haunted maze. In April, Aviation Nation at Nellis Air Force Base is a three-day air show packed with aerobatic performances where eventgoers can support the military community while getting up close with both modern and vintage aircraft.Brunch and groceries along North Hualapai Way
The neighborhood’s mostly residential, but there are a handful of shops and restaurants along North Hualapai Way. There’s an Albertsons for groceries, several fast-food eateries and small businesses like nail salons and barbershops. For a local bite, fast-casual Taco Verde serves up Mexican cuisine, including carne asada street tacos and 12-inch quesadillas topped with guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Diego’s Farm is a brunch spot with homestyle favorites like country fried steak and chicken n’ waffles, as well as specialties like the Funky Donkey—Texas French toast served with caramelized bananas and an upside-down vanilla ice cream cone. For more shopping and dining options, Centennial Center is 3 miles away with over 100 restaurants and retailers, including big-box stores like Walmart, Home Depot and Ross Dress for Less.21st-century homes set in master-planned communities
La Madre Foothills’ 21st-century homes are diverse, with many set in master-planned communities like Providence or the gated Alpine Estates. Monthly homeowners association dues range from $100 to $300 and go toward shared spaces and community upkeep.Single-family homes are typically new traditional, though architectural styles vary from subdivision to subdivision, including everything from Craftsman-style homes with board-and-batten shutters to Spanish-inspired abodes with white stucco facades, exterior archways and red clay-tiled roofs. These three- to five-bedroom homes typically have layouts ranging from 1,500 to 3,100 square feet with attached garages; front yards are gravel-packed with low-water plantings like agave or pygmy date palms, and backyards often include covered patios, rock gardens or the occasional private pool. There are a handful of larger custom homes with 2,500- to 7,000-square-foot layouts and acre-sized lots that allow for luxury spas and pools, multi-car garages or horse barns; many of these homes back up to sweeping stretches of the Mojave Desert with distant mountain views.
The median home price here is $525,000, compared to The Strip's $390,000. Single-family homes range from about $400,000 to $900,000, while custom homes range from $900,000 to $3 million—both ranges depending on size and features.
