Guard-gated single-family homes, condos and townhomes
All homes date to the late 20th century through the early 2000s and are part of homeowners associations, whose monthly dues range from $100 to $400 and go toward community upkeep and shared spaces. “The cost is reasonable for a guard-gated community,” Lee says. Painted Desert’s single-family homes, townhomes and condos are set in planned subdivisions along residential streets that are generally without sidewalks. Architectural styles are diverse, but Spanish features are typical, like clay-tiled roofs, desert-hued stucco facades and the occasional arched entryway. “There’s multiple subdivisions inside Painted Desert with different vibes, like I live in Estates, and we’re all custom homes in here,” Lee says. “You can get anything from a $300,000 condo to million-dollar custom homes, and everything in between.” Two- to five-bedroom single-family home layouts range from 1,400 to 3,300 square feet with attached garages; their yards are gravel-packed, dotted with low-water plantings and towering palm trees that rise over rooftops. Two- to three-bedroom townhomes are typically smaller with 1,400- to 1,700-square-foot layouts, while one- to three-bedroom condos are the smallest with 1,000- to 1,600-square-foot layouts; both townhomes and condos include features like balconies, covered patios and attached or detached garages. The median home price here is $415,000, compared to The Strip's $390,000. Single-family home prices range from about $400,000 to $1 million, depending on a home’s size and features; homes at the top of the price range are often custom-built with sought-after additions like luxury pools, jacuzzis and golf course views. Townhome prices range from about $290,000 to $370,000, while condos are priced between $200,000 and $400,000.Painted Desert Golf Club and nearby parks
Set with distant mountain views, Painted Desert Golf Club’s 18-hole public course offers rolling green fairways lined with mature trees. There’s also a practice facility and pro shop, and members enjoy benefits like discounts, preferred tee times and golf clinics, as well as access to the pool, tennis courts and more. “It’s optional, but if you’re a homeowner, you get a discounted membership,” Lee says. “There’s multiple parks all around Painted Desert,” Lee says. Two miles away, the 120-acre Centennial Hills Park is popular for its dog park, lily pad-themed splash area and sports like pickleball, soccer and sand volleyball. The 680-acre Floyd Lamb Park is a haven for wildlife aficionados, where birders can spot local avians like marsh wrens and red-tailed hawks. There are also a few fishing ponds stocked with channel catfish, and the park’s dirt-packed trails are shared by hikers and mountain bikers.Clark County District schools receive high marks from Niche
Painted Desert is part of the Clark County School District, rated B overall by Niche. Local kids may start at Dean Lamar Allen Elementary before moving on to Justice Myron E. Leavitt Middle, both of which are rated B-minus by Niche. Teens attend the B-rated Centennial High, which offers career and technical education courses like culinary arts, early childhood education and graphic design.Painted Desert’s golf tournaments and social events
The Painted Desert Men’s Club hosts golf tournaments each month in different formats, such as two-man best ball, Chapman or scramble, as well as the Club Championship in June. There are also fun traditions like drive-in movie nights, which members enjoy from the comfort of their golf carts. Most major holidays are celebrated with live music, food and games, like the Memorial Day BBQ, Father’s Day Cookout and the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta. Other planned events include Friday’s Prime Rib Night at Rockwall Grille and occasional raffles for golf prizes. Members may also host their own events at the club. “We do weddings—you can book it for whatever you like,” Lee says. Nearby, there’s fun for all ages at Santa Fe Station Hotel and Casino, including an arcade, bowling and the latest blockbusters at Cinemark Century Santa Fe Station 16 and XD.Getting around from Painted Desert
Interstate 11 borders the neighborhood, leading 16 miles southeast to The Strip. Locals generally drive; residential streets aren’t typically sidewalk-lined, and thoroughfares like West Tropical Parkway and Centennial Center Boulevard don’t include bike lanes. Golf carts are popular around the neighborhood, and RTC Transit buses also stop here. Centennial Hills Hospital is 3 miles away, and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is 18 miles away.Shops, restaurants and more nearby at Centennial Center
Most of the area’s shopping and dining is less than a mile away at Centennial Center, but there are a handful of options in the neighborhood too. For a morning pastry or pick-me-up, Aware Coffee is a local go-to, and next door, The Cracked Egg is a breakfast spot with favorites like peanut butter stuffed French toast and huevos rancheros. There’s also Painted Desert Golf Club’s Rockwall Grille, which offers cocktails and American comfort fare with golf course views in an elegant setting. At Centennial Center, there’s groceries and essentials at big-box and chain stores like Walmart, Home Depot and Trader Joe’s. “People move in here just because there’s a Trader Joe’s across the street,” Lee says. The shopping plaza is packed with locally owned businesses, including everything from medical practices and tech repair services to barbershops and massage studios. There are global flavors in the area too, including Japanese cuisine at Ichi Ramen House, Mexican fare from On the Border and Thai staples like drunken noodles at Thai Street Cafe. For dessert, residents might pop into Cinnaholic for a gooey cinnamon roll, or The Original Rolled Ice Cream for a frozen treat.
