The Lakes
Spanish revival homes on the waterfront
Developers have been building homes in the area in the area since the late 20th century. “This community has been around since the 80s. The lakefront property is the main draw and it’s pretty well-built too,” says Las Vegas Realtor Lane Holmes. The residential landscape of The Lakes reflects some of the most popular home styles in the Southwestern United States, namely the Spanish-revival architecture. Terracotta roof tile and smooth stucco exteriors are familiar stylistic touches in the neighborhood's residential landscape and feature a range of floor plans for homebuyers. Residents live in large single-family houses, townhomes and lakefront condos, with lakefront properties featuring private docks. An eclectic array of custom-designed homes also features a mix of contemporary and traditional style elements. Prices in The Lakes vary depending on the home style. Townhomes and condos range from $250,000 to $325,000, while single-family houses are priced from $500,000 to as much as $3.0 million dollars.Scenic walkways and green spaces around the lake
The Lakes residential streets are lined with pathways that local joggers and cyclists can use to exercise or for a leisurely stroll along the waters of Lake Sahara. Homes along the lakefront often have access to the lake through private docks, and the community's central clubhouse also acts as the local boat club. The lake is stocked with bluegill, largemouth bass and other fish for local anglers to reel in. The sparkling turquoise waters of Lake Sahara provide locals with plenty of opportunities to beat the desert heat. Lake Sahara South Park offers a small green space and a paved walking trail that overlooks the lake. On the other side of West Sahara Avenue is the Canyon Gate Country Club, home to 160 acres of rolling fairways around tranquil lagoons.Local diners and convenience stores
The community has its own small commercial center home to stores like the Lake Mini Market, a small convenience store offering snack foods and beverages. Locals can start their day at the Baby Birds Café, a homey brunch restaurant serving a range of American fare with lakeside views. Franchise establishments like Albertsons and Dunkin line commercial thoroughfares like Durango Avenue. Also along Durango Avenue is Elia Authentic Greek Taverna, which dishes out traditional Greek dishes in a sleek yet cozy interior.School days by Lake Sahara
The gated community's public school students are served by the Clark County School District, beginning their academic journeys at primary schools like M.J. Christensen Elementary. The school has an overall B-minus rating according to Niche and teaches from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade at a student-to-teacher ratio of 21:1. When locals want to head downtown, West Sahara Avenue puts locals within eight miles of Las Vegas proper. Interstate 15 is just 15 miles to the southeast and the California border is 40 miles to the southwest. Living at the Lakes gives residents access to sparkling waterfront views and all the world-class shopping and dining that Las Vegas has to offer.
