Suburban Neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia
Richmond City County 23060, 23228, 23294

Well-maintained Traditional-style homes
The residential sections of Laurel are made up of quiet, neatly laid out streets, many of which end in cul-de-sacs and are shaded by established trees. Some subdivisions feature sidewalks. “It’s a well-established area,” says Goad. “The thing that I like about it the most is that everyone takes really good care of their property. All of the lawns are manicured, and you can tell that everyone who lives here takes pride in their homes.” Goad says that the well-maintained traditional Colonial Revival and Modern Transitional-style single-family homes here are on the small side compared to communities farther out in the county. “Your typical three or four-bedroom house will be between 1,400 and 1,700 square feet, whereas a little farther west you’d find homes for closer to 6,000 square feet. But prices reflect that—they run anywhere from $300,000 to $400,000,” she says.Henrico County schools
Neighborhood kids attend schools in the Henrico County Public Schools system. The exact path they take during their grade school careers varies depending on their address, so parents are advised to double-check the boundary maps ahead of registration. Many go to Dumbarton Elementary, Brookland Middle and John Randolph Tucker High. In 2023, Dumbarton earned a C-plus from Niche and Brookland earned a C. The high school earned a B-plus that same year. Tucker High is the only one of Henrico County’s nine high schools that hosts three specialty centers: Advanced College Academy, International Baccalaureate and Spanish Language and Global Citizenship (which is known as Spanish Immersion). Students participating in the Advanced College Academy graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree, earned by taking dual enrollment courses in partnership with Reynolds Community College.Centrally located community park
Locals can enjoy the fresh air and burn off some energy at the Laurel Recreation Area off Hungary Spring Road near the middle of Laurel. The park is within 4 miles of most homes and offers everything from sunny baseball, soccer and football fields to picnic tables shaded by young oak trees and a classic playground. At the south end of the park, there’s Laurel Skate Park, too. Less than 2 miles south of the park, down Oakview Avenue, across East Parham Road, RockIt Sports offers indoor camps and clinics in baseball and basketball.Shopping and Dining
For a bout of retail therapy, Short Pump Town Center is just over 6 miles west down Hungary Road to West Broad Street. The drive takes about 15 minutes, depending on traffic, and the two-story, open-air mall has everything from Macy’s and Dillard’s to Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn. There are even popular sit-down restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and Firebirds. For groceries and other everyday essentials, residents can stick closer to home by visiting shopping along Staples Mill Road. On the main thoroughfare, there’s a Food Lion, a Kroger Marketplace, an ALDI and a Target, all within 2 miles of most Laurel homes.
Getting around the Richmond metro
U.S. Route 33, also known as Staples Mill Road, is a main thoroughfare that runs north-to-south through nearly the center of Laurel. Interstates 295, 95 and 64 are all close by, too. I-295 and I-95 are both less than 5 miles northeast of most homes. I-64 is even closer, just 3 miles south. For those who need to venture farther afield than the Richmond metro, the Richmond International Airport is less than 20 miles southeast down I-64. The drive takes only about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Parham Doctors’ Hospital is much closer to home, off East Parham Road within just 10 minutes of most homes.
