Residential streets and access to amenities across Lawndale

In Los Angeles County, the city of Lawndale offers a residential setting that keeps homeowners close to schools and routes to the beach. Home prices tend to be lower than in surrounding areas, so you can find detached houses, townhouses and condos at relatively affordable rates. Major roads like Hawthorne Boulevard are lined with restaurants, and there are parks throughout the city, so residents are surrounded by things to do.

Housing options with lower prices than surrounding areas

Single-family homes set close together make up most of Lawndale, but you can also find townhouses and the occasional condo building. When it comes to detached homes, there are plenty of bungalows and Spanish Revivals, and some have long driveways instead of attached garages. The median sale price is almost $800,000, making it a cheaper place to live compared to nearby areas like Hawthorne and North Torrance. “It’s affordable, relative to the South Bay,” says Cheyne Inman, Realtor with Re/Max Estate Properties. “For first-time home buyers, it tends to be on their lists for that reason.”

Lawndale's freeway access and transit options

Interstate 405 runs directly through Lawndale, providing a major route for getting around the region. “You’re close to the freeway if you need to commute downtown, but you’re also close to the beach — close enough you don’t have to take the freeway,” Inman says. Drivers use I-405 to reach Interstate 110, which leads about 20 miles to downtown Los Angeles. You might drive 5 miles down to work in Torrance or 4 miles to relax at Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach. Traffic is a constant part of life across the county, so some trips take longer during peak traffic hours.

Two school districts cover the city

The Lawndale Elementary School and Centinela Valley Union High School districts serve Lawndale. Lawndale High School has a B-plus rating from Niche, and students can enroll in the Early College Program to earn credits or even an associate degree through the nearby El Camino College.
