"A lot of people are drawn here because it has the same quality of construction as bigger cities like Lexington, but it's a lot cheaper," says Realtor Phillip Neeley-Morrison, who sells houses with Bluegrass Home Group. "It also doesn't have that expensive of a property tax compared to the bigger cities." The median single-family home price is $275,000, which is roughly in line with the state median but below Lexington's median and the national median. Prices range from $150,000 to $500,000.

For those who are into boating life, Herrington Lake is about 45 minutes away. The 2,335-acre artificial lake is a popular fishing spot where people launch motorboats.

Bob-O-Link Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 golf course in Lawrenceburg and was built in 1965.

Local restaurants and fast-food chains
The city's historic downtown is made up of over a century-old brick buildings. Four business-lined roads intersect in a square shape: Broadway Street, Main Street, Woodford Street and Bypass Street. These are lined with a mix of fast-food franchises, local coffee shops, casual Mexican restaurants and eateries that serve American fare. There is also a Walmart and several grocery stores. "For a nightlife or bar scene, you've got to go to Lexington," Neeley-Morrison says.

The city does not have public transportation, so residents rely on cars. Some folks commute 23 miles east on U.S. routes 62 and 60 to Lexington, where top employers include the University of Kentucky, Xerox and CHI Saint Joseph Health, the nearest major hospital. Interstate 64 takes people about 54 miles northwest to Louisville, where top employers include Norton Healthcare, General Electric and Ford Motor Company. Louisville also has the closest international airport.
According to FBI data, Lawrenceburg's violent and property crime rates are well below state and national averages. Over the past half-decade, the city's violent crime rate has remained relatively stable, and the property crime rate has risen.
