A lot of these homes have been updated or remodeled, and floor plans average almost 1,400 square feet. “It would just be a family home with a little more space — three-bedroom, two bath. Those in Almor West and around the rest of the city can visit the Lawon Farmers Market on a weekly basis. The market, which hosts some 40 vendors, takes place on Saturdays around the year along 4th Street, roughly 5 miles from Almor West. One of the area’s major annual events is the Freedom Festival at Elmer Thomas Park, also a 5-mile trip. Held on the weekend before the Fourth of July, the Freedom Festival features a soapbox derby, live music, bounce houses, fireworks and more.
