Brockland packs a lot into a small package
Brockland is a neighborhood whose compact size can be a benefit. Residents in this section of Lawton are never more than a couple of blocks from a mix of amenities and are just 5 miles from Fort Sill, one of the state’s biggest employers. “Close to restaurants, not far from post,” says James Lengele, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker Salute. “Same with shopping, all of that is all pretty [much] right there on top of each other. I would say in that area … the houses go for a little bit less than [neighboring] Crosby Park, so a little bit more affordable. Especially for first-time homebuyers. But, still good homes in there.”
Modest homes with much interest
Most houses around Brockland were built in the mid-20th century, in single-story ranch-style layouts. Options here average 1,300 square feet, but it’s not uncommon for owners to convert attached garages into additional living space. Lots are often around one-fifth of an acre. Price tags range from $60,000 to $130,000. Some of the area’s homes are rental and investment properties. “People are going in, doing work and flipping the houses in that area,” says Lengele, a Lawton resident who served 25 years in the military before transitioning to real estate. There are a few apartment complexes here, too.
Local restaurants like Los Tres Amigos are close by
The Cache Road thoroughfare is within walking distance and is home to multiple restaurants and other businesses, among them the Los Tres Amigos restaurant. “Los Tres is definitely popular,” Lengele says. “There’s a lot of people that love going there.” The restaurant is known in part for its margaritas. Zaiqa Authentic Pakistani Cuisine is another well-liked local spot. Cache Road also has several chain options, including Chili’s and Dairy Queen. Brockland is adjacent to both a Homeland grocery store and an Xpress Wellness Urgent Care. There are multiple houses of worship in the area, including Brockland Free Will Baptist and Faith Journey Church.
Lawton rings in summer with a bang
One of the staple annual events in the city is the Freedom Festival, which traditionally takes place on the weekend before the Fourth of July. “The Freedom Festival’s probably one of the biggest things,” Lengele says. “Brings in a lot of people.” The festival stretches across two days and includes live music, a soapbox derby and two nights of fireworks. Elmer Thomas Park is also home to “Holiday in the Park,” a weekslong affair that starts in mid-November. The park is decorated with numerous lights during that time and hosts an ice skating rink that’s open daily, a petting zoo, hay rides and more.
Get involved at Woodland Hills
The Lawton Public Schools system scores a B overall on Niche. The area’s Woodland Hills Elementary gets a B-plus and has an active PTA that supports programming like a back-to-school breakfast for teachers. The B-plus-rated Eisenhower Middle features extracurriculars like FCA and an Oklahoma Association for Academic Competition team. Eisenhower High has a B rating and offers a JROTC program.
Putney Park is an option for fresh air
Kids in the area itching for fresh air can make a quick trip to Putney Park, in the neighboring Brockland South area. Putney features a playground and plenty of open field space. Willow Creek Park is another option, a well-used option just about a mile from Brockland, this one complete with a ball diamond and soccer goals.
Cache Road is a commuting option
Cache Road, Brockland’s main artery, connects commuters with Interstate 44. Both Brockland and the intersecting 67th Street have Lawton Area Transit System bus stops, too. The 265-bed Comanche County Memorial Hospital is 3 miles from Brockland, and the Lawton Fort-Sill Regional Airport is an 8-mile trip.
