Lawton neighborhood centered around community park

In Brockland South, homes are within walking distance of Putney Park, a sprawling green space that's popular with neighborhood residents. “They have picnics and stuff out there,” says Don Radford, a local Realtor with Parks Jones Realty with 10 years of real estate experience. “They have room there for the kids to play.” The park is one of several amenities in and around this community, including several houses of worship, restaurants and shopping. Fort Sill, one of the state’s largest employers, is 5 miles away and downtown Lawton is a 6-mile drive west. “You’re always pretty close to something,” Radford says.

Homes range from the midcentury to the modern

This is an established neighborhood but one with a wide variety of housing. Homes date from the 1940s through the 2000s, though most were built in the 1970s, and some have been updated. Ranch-style homes and bungalows dominate the landscape, complete with driveways and roomy backyards. Brockland South attracts quite a few military families because it’s only about 5 miles from Fort Sill, one of the state’s largest employers. “You have a mixture of people,” says Radford, who is an Army veteran himself. “And it’s just a quiet neighborhood. Nobody bothers anybody.” Prices here range between $70,000 and $160,000.

From crafts to fireworks, Lawton is home to a range of events

Lawton has a full calendar of local events that residents can check out year-round. “Very seldom is there not something going on,” Radford says. The Craft Harvest Show in November at Comanche County Fairgrounds, 4 miles away, is a favorite. “It’s all handmade crafts from around the area,” says James Lengele, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker Salute who served 25 years in the military before transitioning to real estate. The summertime, meanwhile, brings the Freedom Festival, which Lengele says attracts a lot of people. Held on the weekend before the Fourth of July, the event includes a soapbox derby, live music and two nights of fireworks.
