Village of Pennecamp
Premier homes with golf course views
Under the Central Florida sun, front yards in the Village of Pennecamp are bright green year-round, ornamented by palm trees, magnolias, live oaks and more. The neighborhood features houses built between 2009 and 2010, each a model from one of The Villages’ home series. Vinyl-sided Patio Villas are on the low end of the price range, listing between the high $200,000s and mid $300,000s with one- to three-bedroom units. Courtyard Villas are only available in two- and three-bedroom floor plans and range from $300,000 to the low $500,000s. Designer Home floor plans start with three bedrooms and 2,030 square feet and typically run from $450,000 to $600,000, though golf course and waterfront views can push prices beyond $900,000. The Premier Home series is the most exclusive, with stylized floor plans and nearly 3,000 square feet of space. Sitting on lots of almost a quarter acre, these homes can cost between $600,000 and $1.3 million. The Villages is a deed-restricted community. All residents pay a monthly amenity fee of $195.Championship versus executive courses
Villagers are automatic members of every country club, so they can golf for free on executive courses. And though these courses are semi-private, nonresidents are rarely seen on the greens, according to villager Debbie Martin, a Senior Real Estate Specialist with RE/MAX Premier Realty. “They have to call the day of to get a tee time, and the likelihood of getting one is slim since tee times are first assigned to residents who want to play.” The 27-hole Cane Garden Championship Golf Course encompasses most of Pennecamp. Its associated country club lies on the neighborhood’s east side, with a restaurant patio popular for watching the sunset. Two executive golf courses are on the west side, including Bonita Pass Executive Golf Course. The Village of Pennecamp has its own adult pool, but when grandkids are visiting, residents bring them to the family pool at Fish Hawk Recreation Center. Aside from swimming, Fish Hawk has tennis, pickleball, bocce, shuffleboard and billiards facilities. More amenities are less than a mile away at the Hibiscus and Allamanda recreation centers.Good times and conveniences at the square
Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, located about 5 miles away, is known for a waterfront lined by restaurants and nightly entertainment. Boutiques, small shops and more restaurants lie farther inland. Johnny Rocket’s is a stylized retro diner chain with a menu of American staples, from cheeseburgers to milkshakes. GarVino's Cigars, Fine Wine & Gifts offers premium selections of imported beers, cigars and fine wine. Surrounding the plaza are businesses for everyday errands, including a Winn-Dixie, doctors’ offices, banks, pharmacies and more. The nearest hospital, HCA Tradewinds Emergency, is 3 miles south of Pennecamp.Getting around on golf carts
Golf carts are the main mode of getting around The Villages. Even main roads have parallel-running multi-modal pathways. “They call them that because it’s not just golf carts you’ll run into,” Martin says. “There are walkers, joggers, bikers — of course — but people ride all sorts of contraptions. One guy has this thing that’s like a stair-stepper bike.” Travel outside the community is car-dependent. Orlando International Airport is about 65 miles southeast via Florida’s Turnpike.
