Village of Sabal Chase
From Patio Villas to Designer Homes
According to Serafino, homeowners are responsible for managing their own yard work, and it’s taken seriously. Properties and communal spaces alike are beautifully kept with subtropical landscaping. “I'm proud to live here,” he says. “Everything is impeccable and maintained to the utmost.” Tidy streets wind past various models from several of The Villages’ home series. The Patio Villa series offers the smallest floor plans and the lowest prices. They can have one- to three-bedrooms and range from the high $200,000s to the mid $300,000s. The Courtyard Villa series provides a bit more room, offering two to three bedrooms and small outdoor courtyards. Prices range between the low $300,000s and mid $500,000s. The Designer Home series is the most expensive series offered in Sabal Chase. These houses sit on the neighborhood’s largest lots, displaying various architectural influences, from Craftsman to Minimal Traditional to Spanish Revival. Designer Homes start around $600,000 and max out in the mid $700,000s. All villagers pay a $195 amenity fee monthly. This fee covers access to all recreation centers, executive golf courses, country clubs and more.Line dancing by Lake Sumter
Lake Sumter Landing Market Square is a hub of shopping, dining and entertainment. Every night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., live music plays on the waterfront, typically accompanied by a few dozen line-dancing villagers, though that number increases in season. “After my daughters saw how much fun we have down here, they went from planning to sell the house one day to letting me know they’ll take great care of it,” Serafino says with a laugh. From the boardwalk, villagers and visitors alike walk to waterfront restaurants. Lighthouse Point Bar and Grille is the easiest to spot, thanks to its titular lighthouse. Its menu is full of classic American cuisine and fresh seafood. Regional chain Cody’s Original Roadhouse has a location on the water as well, making its back patio quite popular. As for running errands, Lake Sumter Landing Market Square is still the place to go because it shares a parking lot with Winn-Dixie, several doctors’ offices, a couple of banks, a pharmacy and even more businesses convenient for the day-to-day.The Sabal Chase Pool, recreation centers and golf courses
The Sabal Chase Pool is an adult pool, which means it only permits villagers and registered guests aged 30 and up. So, when grandkids come to visit, the family pool right up the road at Canal Street Recreation Center is the go-to. Other facilities at this rec center include bocce, pickleball and tennis courts. Access to executive golf courses, such as Bogart Executive Golf Course on the neighborhood’s south side, is free for villagers. Championship courses, like Mallory Hill Championship Course on the north side, require a greens fee. That said, memberships to Mallory Hill Country Club, as well as all other country clubs in The Villages, are included in the amenity fee.To golf cart or not to golf cart
Golf carts can be used anywhere in The Villages, but leaving the community requires a car. Orlando and its international airport are 60 miles away via Florida’s Turnpike, which is about 10 miles south of the village. The nearest hospital, HCA Florida Trailwinds Village Emergency, is 3 miles away.
