Mid-century brick ranches and early 1900s Cape Cods are priced between $200,000 and $500,000. Lemont Centennial Park is on 127th Street east of Old Quarry Middle School and has an ADA-compliant playground with modern equipment, multiple baseball and softball fields and the Centennial Community Center, with a large dance studio and full-size gym, which is home to the Lemont Legacy, a recreational competitive gymnastics team. There’s also a skatepark and a butterfly garden. The Forge Adventure Park & Ziplines is a 300-acre amusement park that was once a quarry, featuring a 1200 foot zipline. Virginia Reed Park is known by locals as the “Choo-Choo Train Park” because of the stationary toy train where kids can play inside and sit in one of the cars. There’s also playground equipment and a picnic shelter. Briarcliffe Park has two playgrounds for younger and older kids and a walking and biking path.Multiple elementary school steps in West Lemont

About 9 miles from the neighborhood and north of the downtown area is Argonne National Laboratory, which employs over 1,000 scientists researching supercomputing and renewable energy. During World War II, the site was used to carry out work for the Manhattan Project, which produced the first nuclear weapons. Two miles west of the neighborhood, along the Des Plaines River, is the Seneca Petroleum Plant. In 2023, an asphalt tank exploded, causing a fire. However, the incident did not result in a hazmat situation. Next to Seneca is the Lemont Refinery, owned by Citgo and employs more than 700 people. For those who would rather drive, heading north on Interstate 355 will lead to Interstate 55. The distance to downtown and the lakefront is 30 miles.Historic downtown Lemont buildings
Going back to the 1850s, the downtown Lemont area has many historical buildings dating back to that time. The Lemont Area Historical Society puts on the Drinkin’ with Lincoln tour in February, around the time of the birthday of the 16th president. One of the stops on the tour is what is currently the Canal Street Pub, which used to be known as Fischbach’s Saloon, complete with a potbelly stove inside. Today, one of the more modern watering holes is the Pollyanna Brewing Company. “It’s a big draw - this original location started the ripple effect of breweries opening in the area,” Carney says. Restaurant and retail options include Rustic Knead, which bakes its bread on-site and uses it for various sandwiches. There’s also an assortment of pastries. Grocery options on State Street are Jewel-Osco, Aldi and Pete’s Fresh Market. Big box stores like Target and Home Goods are also available.
