New suburban homes in Greendale
Contemporary Traditional houses built between the early 2000s and 2010s make up Greendale’s main neighborhoods. In the Coventry subdivision, fences flank the main entrance road, which itself is bisected by a median filled with trees and professionally trimmed bushes. The houses sit close to each other along tree-lined streets and occupy lots no larger than a quarter-acre. Despite the compact lots, backyards still make enough room for games and other outdoor activities. “It is perfect if you have kids or pets,” says Martina Barksdale, spokeswoman for VisitLex, the city’s local convention and visitor's bureau. Single-family homes run from about $250,000 to $500,000, depending on size.Neighborhood park and trail route to Kentucky Horse Park
Located in the middle of a lush green field, the neighborhood’s Coventry Park has a playground complete with slides and swing sets. Residents planning small gatherings and cookouts will also find some tables and grills near the playground. Even more amenities, including a splash pad, exist at Masterson Station Park. The green space is a favorite of dog owners and hosts after-school horseback riding lessons. Dog owners can also let their pets roam while also enjoying views of the pond at Coldstream Park. The 12-mile Legacy Trail passes by Coldstream, connecting cyclists and long-distance runners to the Kentucky Horse Park about 4 miles to the north. The Horse Park is a tourist destination because of its barns, horse and jockey statues and activities like the youth riding camp. The Kearney Hill Golf Links provides a public 18-hole course.FACE initiative at Coventry Oak Elementary
The neighborhood is home to Coventry Oak Elementary School, which receives a B-minus from ratings site Niche. Coventry Oak promotes the Family and Community Engagement intiative—or FACE. Relying on a partnership among parents, teachers and administrators, the initiative aims to raise engagement and collaboration between thefamilies and schools. Students may then go on to Winburn Middle School and Bryan Station High School, which both of which receive B grades from Niche. Bryan Station High has some unique extracurriculars, including gaming and hiking clubs.Shows and rodeos at Kentucky Horse Park
“There’s always something to do with horses on this side of town. You get to see a lot of jockeys, and it’s really cool,” says Jimmy Perez, manager at the Sedona Taphouse. The Horse Park hosts a variety of events ranging from markets and festivals to horse shows and rodeo competitions. One of its many horse events is the annual Battle in the Saddle in late August. The charity event challenges teams to pen groups of cattle as quickly as they can. The park’s other festivities include the Vintage Market Days of Lexington. The market draws art and antique collectors, and those looking for trendy clothing and housewares. In July, many fans of Breyer model horses come to the Horse Park and the nearby Clarion Hotel for BreyerFest. “The whole hotel we’re attached to becomes like a mall. You see tens of thousands of people walking through the halls,” Perez says.Located between I-64 and New Circle Road commuter routes
While many here drive to commute across town, the Lextran does have bus stops around the neighborhood. Interstate 64, which connects to Interstate 75, provides a route to neighboring cities like Georgetown and other Lexington destinations like the Hamburg shopping district about 10 miles south. Nearby New Circle Road provides most of the route to the Blue Grass Airport, which is about 8 miles from the neighborhood. Downtown Lexington is also about 5 miles south of Greendale and close to major medical facilities like the UK Good Samaritan Hospital and the Albert B. Chandler Hospital.Neighborhood hangout at Rose & Jim’s and Marriott bourbon tastings
Rose & Jim’s Bar & Grill serves comfort foods like cheeseburgers, quesadillas and waffle fries, and also features games like darts and pool and an outdoor dining area. For special occasions, there are also a few dining spots at the Marriott Lexington Griffin Gate Golf Resort & Spa, like the Bluegrass Bistro and its selection of farm-to-table meals. A stop on the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the hotel offers bourbon machines and a Tasting Loft for guests to enjoy their beverages. For some cold brews and gourmet pub fare, there’s also the Sedona Taphouse. ALDI and Walmart are some of the nearest grocery shopping options.Important to know
