Just west of the Albert B. Chandler Hospital and the University of Kentucky, North Elizabeth Street is an almost entirely tenant-occupied residential neighborhood popular for undergraduate and medical students. The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is located in the neighborhood, and the College of Medicine is just across South Limestone at the hospital, making this location especially convenient for students enrolled in those programs. The neighborhood has a supermarket, coffee shops and takeout restaurants within a mile’s radius and pocket parks a half-mile north and south. A Lextran bus line along South Limestone with stops in the neighborhood provides access to public transportation. “Near the school is a popular area,” says Realtor Bob Sophiea. “The University of Kentucky is the biggest employer in Lexington, plus there’s the students and three or four hospitals all in that same area, so the market’s really strong and will remain strong.”

Most residents in North Elizabeth Street are within a half mile’s walk to Lou Johnson Park to the north or Elizabeth Street Park to the south. The University of Kentucky bleeds into North Elizabeth Street, with the College of Pharmacy and a few other health research buildings being located within the neighborhood. Students who live here can typically walk to class, and those with children send their kids to Fayette County Public Schools. “It’s a desirable school district,” says Realtor Joy Murphy. The assigned public schools are Picadome Elementary, with a B-plus on Niche; Morton Middle School, which has an A and ranks as Kentucky’s 15th best public middle school; and Lafayette High School, which also has an A and ranks as Kentucky’s second best public high school. Lafayette High School has a pre-engineering program that prepares students for careers in fields like engineering, architecture and medicine and is home to the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, where students can specialize in subjects like art, ballet and creative writing.
Picadome Elementary School has 417 students and serves Pre-K through 5th grade.
The student population of Morton Middle School is 705 and the school serves 6-8.

Walking to class and taking the Lextran bus downtown
North Elizabeth Street is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood beside the University of Kentucky, a mile and a half south of downtown Lexington. The neighborhood is home to Shriners Children’s Lexington and sits across South Limestone from the Albert B. Chandler Hospital, making it convenient for medical professionals to walk to work. The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is in the neighborhood, so it’s an especially convenient location for pharmaceutical students, but most UK students can typically walk to class within about 15 minutes. Downtown workers can take the Lextran bus from the neighborhood to get there in 15 minutes. The area has no bike lanes, making biking to work tricky, but the neighborhood has sidewalks throughout, so walking is typically easy. The Blue Grass Airport is 6 miles west of North Elizabeth Street.
