Calm suburban living in Lexington
Stonewall is a neighborhood where many residents spend their free time walking outside with their neighbors or cultivating their gardens. It's known for its spacious yards and properties that reflect typical styles of the ‘50s through the ‘80s — when most of the community’s housing was developed. “Stonewall stands out as one of the gem neighborhoods in Lexington,” says Jeremy Perryman, a Realtor with United Real Estate who has experience throughout Central Kentucky. “It captivates [people] with its tranquil residential ambiance, marked by mature trees and meticulously kept homes.” However, Stonewall’s true charm rests in its community-oriented nature. Here, children gather at Stonewall Park to sled, and people can catch up with their neighbors at annual events like an ice cream social. Adding to the appeal are highly rated schools and a location just a short drive from the bustling downtown area.

Ranch-style dwellings
Homes in Stonewall are situated among towering redbuds and dogwoods that fill the community with white and red hues. Many of these properties are midcentury ranch-style dwellings; however, there are some newer builds, including '90s two-story residences with stone features. Michael Prather, a property manager at Keller Williams whose sister lives in the community, describes the housing market here as "character-driven," citing that many of the constructions are unique. Prices typically range from about $265,000 for some older homes to approximately $830,000 for a four-bedroom condo. Most properties here sit on spacious grassy lawns that residents often spend time maintaining. "My sister loves to get out to landscape and enjoy her yard," Prather says. "She [even] has raised planting beds," he adds. It is important to note that some homes here receive high Flood Factor Scores.

Both middle and elementary receive A-minus ratings on Niche. Afterward, many students head to A-rated Lafayette High School, which Niche ranks as the state's No. 2 public high school. Here, students can apply to enroll in the Pre-Engineering Program or School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA).
The student population of Jessie M Clark Middle School is 1,083 and the school serves 6-8.

Sledding, walking and playing sports
When snow covers the ground in a blanket of white, children spend their day sledding down the hill that stretches from Stonewall Elementary to Stonewall Park. This green space also offers densely wooded areas that visitors can explore. Another popular spot is Higbee Mill Park, where residents can stroll along a paved path that circles a soccer field. At the nearby Wellington Park, visitors can stop and smell the flowers at the Woman’s Recognition Garden or let their furry friends run loose at the dedicated dog space. Just east of Stonewall is the massive Shilito Park, which Prather says attracts many people from the community. Here, residents enjoy everything from tennis courts to baseball fields. In the summer, people can even spend their afternoon swimming at the park’s pool.
Stonewall Center Strip Mall
Prather recommends Cheng's, a Chinese eatery located in the Stonewall Center Strip Mall, for a bite to eat. For dessert, he suggests North Lime. Here, locals can select from an array of unique donut flavors or even create a custom latte. This commercial corridor is also home to Bella Blooms Florist and Gifts for those wanting to purchase an arrangement for a special celebration and DY Market, an Asian grocer. Many people here also shop at a nearby Kroger location for groceries. Stonewall's shopping enthusiasts will enjoy that Fayette Mall — Kentucky’s largest mall — is less than 2.5 miles away.

An ice cream social and other community events
The Stonewall Neighborhood Association organizes several events, including a Fourth of July Parade, where locals decorate wagons and get all decked out in festive attire to compete for the best costume prize. When August rolls around, residents come together for a classic ice cream social, complete with an inflatable for the children to have fun on. In December, residents immerse themselves in the holiday spirit as nostalgic tunes fill the air during the Stonewall Annual Christmas Caroling. Locals can head to the downtown area for other gatherings, including the Lexington Farmers' Market.
Easy accessibility
“What truly sets Stonewall apart is its harmonious blend of suburban peace and urban accessibility,” Perryman says. Locals are less than 6 miles from downtown Lexington, which they can get to by taking Clays Mill Road and South Broadway. At around 3.5 miles into this route, locals will be at CHI Saint Joseph Health, which is one of the area’s major employers. Other nearby employers include the University of Kentucky and Baptist Health, both of which are less than a 5-mile drive away. Also conveniently nearby is the Blue Grass Airport, which locals can reach in less than a 5-mile drive via Man O War Boulevard. While many people drive, they can also use Lextran’s public transportation services.
