'Small villages of homes' in the Appalachian Mountains
Liberty Township is a rural community in Centre County bordered by the Appalachian Mountains to the north and the Foster Joseph Sayers Dam to the south. The area is heavily secluded, with state Route 150 cutting through and connecting to the township’s country roads. The community attracts a diverse group of people, from those looking for a lower cost of living to those looking for a vacation home far away from the city. “There are small villages of homes, but there are a lot of mountainside recreational properties too,” says Boyd Phillips, a Realtor with Fish Real Estate, who’s been selling homes in the area for over five years.
Liberty is a historical township with older homes and sprawling countryside views.

Boating and fishing at Bald Eagle State Park
Bald Eagle State Park is a 5,900-acre recreation hotspot along the Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir. The park offers boating access with a marina and launches, fishing spots and a campground. “It has amazing fishing right off the dam,” says Phillips. There’s also a sandy beach with swimming access and a playground. Clinton Country Club, located 7 miles east, is an 18-hole golf course with a pro shop and tournaments throughout the year. Clinton County Speedway, a dirt track 9 miles away, holds races every weekend in the summer.

Diverse mix of home styles in Liberty Township
Homebuyers can find a wide range of properties, including national-style and farmhouse-style homes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, ranch-style and colonial homes from the late 20th century as well as manufactured houses from the 21st century. Log cabin vacation homes have also started being built here within the past 30 years, attracting buyers looking for a getaway in a secluded area. There’s a large cluster of homes in Blanchard, which is on the southern edge of the township, while other houses spread out along winding country roads. Blanchard’s homes sit on smaller lot sizes, and houses outside of this cluster have large lots ranging from three to 20 acres. Dual enrollment program at Central Mountain High
Students may attend Liberty-Curtin Elementary, which gets a C from Niche, for kindergarten through fourth grade, before going to Central Mountain Middle, which also has a C, for fifth through eighth grade. Central Mountain High, which also receives a C, offers a dual enrollment program with Pennsylvania State University. “The biggest draw is it’s less than 40 minutes from Penn State,” says Phillips. Penn State, just 20 miles south of Liberty, is a public university with nearly 90,000 students enrolled annually. The college also has a highly decorated sports program with 82 national collegiate team championships.

Close to U.S. Route 220, Interstate 80
The township is car-dependent because of its rural atmosphere. The closest hospital is the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, located 8 miles east in Lock Haven. State College Regional is the closest airport, which is 20 miles south.
Shopping and dining in Beech Creek and Mill Hall
Residents will have to travel outside the township for shopping and dining.
