Semi-rural community with farm and open space appeal
The Chicago area is known for its many dense and highly urbanized blocks and a bustling downtown teeming with tourist and business activities, much of it occurring amid some iconic skyscrapers. But that doesn’t mean this expansive metro area is entirely bereft of open and protected lands. The Village of Campton Hills, located 60 miles west of the Chicago Loop, offers its residents convenient access to some of those features. The village is home to a number of farms, including the Historic Corron Farm and the also historic Garfield Farm and Inn Museum. One institution here is Lenkaitis Holsteins, a state-of-the-art dairy farm right off Corron Road that houses 60 registered Holsteins and Red and White cows. Built in the 1870s, the Campton Town Hall at the corner of Town Hall Road and Illinois Route 64 is another historic property and occupies a small green space enclosed by a rustic fence. The small white structure built in the 1870s remains in use to this day. Additionally, the community has more than 3,000 acres of township open space, 1,000 of which is preserved Kane County land. “We’re semi-rural. We’re very open space minded. We love our open space. For relaxation, a lot of people like to walk their dogs on the open space, and it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I think that’s what attracts people here. It’s a very quiet community,” says Barbara Wojnizki, president of the Village of Campton Hills. “We’re a community that cares for its neighbors and that’s always willing to land a hand and help others in times of need.”
