Life in Northside Lima
Lima is an Ohio city whose Northside is known for small-town home styles and prices. “We have a broad range of prices in town,” says Realtor Veronica Fox of Superior Plus Realtors. “You have homes under $100,000 in town or ones out in the country for $500,000 or $600,000.” The area is surrounded by open acres of farmland, with Central Lima 3 miles south. A handful of restaurants and one park occupy the neighborhood; for family-friendly events, folks head to Central Lima.

Accessibly priced ranch-styles and cottages
Northside Lima’s streets are wide and neat, with narrow sidewalks running parallel. Although lots are evenly spaced throughout, their sizes vary. Buyers will find the classic ranch-style home as the most prevalent, resting on lots anywhere from a fraction of an acre up to one quarter of an acre. The occasional tiny cottage lies interspersed among the more common ranch-styles. Prices are below the national average. Simple builds needing some finishing touches sell for as low as $70,000, while the homes exceeding 2,000 square feet max out at $330,000. The national median for home prices is about $400,000.

Residents living in Northside Lima have a 3-mile, nine-minute drive into Central Lima. Those who work in the downtown area can also commute by bus. The nearest stop is on Brower Road, after which the ride takes about half an hour. “We’re less than two hours from Fort Wayne and Cincinnati,” says Realtor Sheila Custer of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. Past wastewater issues
Although Lima’s residents don’t struggle with flooding or fires, there was a wastewater problem 10 years ago. As part of a settlement in 2014 with the federal government over sewage releases into the Ottawa River, Lima more than doubled its wastewater treatment capacity. The city also removed or replaced affected trees by the river. All told, this work cost some $147 million over 10 years. The Ohio Water Development Authority granted the city $5.82 million toward further wastewater treatment in 2022.
