East Vincent Township
Old farmhouses and new developments
At the eastern edge of the township, on the outskirts of Spring City, one also finds townhouses and twins. Go west a bit, and along the township’s winding roads are acres of pastureland, wooded areas and crops. Here, stone farmhouses, some more than 200 years old, still grace the land. But there are also many newer developments along these country lanes, with larger homes such as modern Colonials, Craftsman and custom-builds. Home prices in the area vary from about $225,000 to $1.2 million.Top-rated schools
Children in the community may begin their public education at East Vincent Elementary, which has a 12-1 student-teacher ratio and an A-minus rating from Niche. From there, they move on to Owen J. Roberts Middle School, which has a 14-1 student-teacher ratio and an A-minus rating. Owen J. Roberts High School also holds an A-minus rating. The high school offers advanced placement, gifted and international baccalaureate programs. The singer Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates is a 1964 graduate.Hiking trails and haunted asylums
East Vincent’s 20-acre Community Park on the Ridge is open during daylight hours. The green space provides volleyball, basketball and tennis courts and sports fields in addition to ornamental gardens, exercise stations and two loop trails. Realtor Chuck says residents who enjoy hiking and bike riding can pick up the Schuylkill River Trail in East Vincent and take the multi-use path to nearby Phoenixville. The 120-mile trail travels throughout much of southeastern Pennsylvania and passes through rural, suburban, agricultural and urban areas. Pennhurst Asylum was once a state school for mentally challenged children. It was closed in 1987 after years of overcrowding and controversial treatments. Today, the reportedly haunted facility is home to both the Pennhurst Museum, which offers educational tours of the school and the Pennhurst Haunted Asylum, which features popular spine-tingling tours that involve a fictional story of inmates conspiring to grab control of the asylum from the staff.Retail stores and old inns
Residents can find many big box stores in nearby Phoenixville. The Shoppes at Valley Forge is an outdoor retail plaza with a Staples, a Warehouse Market, nail salons and several restaurants. Locals can pick up baked goods, freshly made sandwiches, soups and salads and seasonal produce at the Dutch Country Farm Market, open Mondays through Saturdays. The market is owned by local farmers who grow most of the produce they sell. For more extensive grocery trips, there are several supermarkets, including an Acme, in nearby Phoenixville. For dinner out, Bella Trattoria is an Italian eatery that opened in 2021. The restaurant serves local interpretations of classic Italian dishes. The 280-year-old Seven Stars Inn bills itself as “the original Chester County steakhouse.”Psychic expos and family days
The Pennhurst State School campus features a Paranormal Enthusiast & Oddities Expo in May. The two-day event features psychics, paranormal investigators, vendors and historical tours. Attendees can meet ghost hunters and other kindred spirits. In September, East Vincent Township Community Day provides residents the opportunity to meet their neighbors and free food and hospitality while kids keep busy with a bounce house, pony rides and a climbing wall.Getting in and around town
