The smallest neighborhood in downtown Lincoln faces the Nebraska State Capitol
With nearly 120 residences in the downtown community of Capitol View, it is considered the smallest residential neighborhood in Lincoln. With historic bungalows, modern condominiums and pockets of mobile home subdivisions, buyers will find a range of prices in the heart of the city. And yes, the state's 400-foot tall Capitol can be viewed throughout. “While only a handful of homes come for sale each year in Capitol View, it does attract buyers who want to live and work near each other,'' said Realtor Matt Kirkland, owner of Giving Realty and a real estate agent in Lincoln for more than 20 years. "Transplants from larger cities who dislike driving find Capitol View ideal. Dining, shopping and outdoor amenities are plentiful and easy to get to by bike or bus.”
Several historic houses of worship reside in Capitol View, including 150-year-old First Christian Church and 157-year-old Saint Mary Catholic Church.

Longstanding restaurants welcome fans with picky palates
Capitol View and adjacent neighborhoods of Downtown and Far South feature dining and shopping destinations that have been around for years. Muchacho’s is small in stature but stands out with its bright blue brick building, its similarly painted food truck and its brisket tacos. Its tagline is “Coffee. Tacos. Beer”, which explains its long hours of daily operation. DaVinci’s, a long-standing pizza restaurant at 11th and G Streets, welcomes regular groups from students to retirees.
Billy’s Restaurant is 40 years old and is steps from the governor’s mansion and the Nebraska State Capitol. “It’s not uncommon to find the governor enjoying a working lunch or dinner with constituents,'' Kirkland said. "Billy’s is one of the more upscale restaurants in downtown Lincoln and has a great reputation.” Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso welcomes regulars with big windows, local art and comfortable seating. Russ’s Neighborhood Market delivers locally and knows many customers by name. St. Teresa Thrift Shop is a ministry of Saint Teresa Catholic Church and a well-known destination for home furnishings and décor.

Nearby parks delight residents with art and animals
While there are no city parks inside Capitol View's boundaries, nearby options are close enough to conveniently enjoy. Hazel Abell Park has a quiet magic of its own, with elaborate sculptures, cast iron street lamps and stunning flower gardens. Dogs on leashes are welcome, and children will enjoy the small playground and tossing coins into the flowing water fountain. While the 35-acre Lincoln Children’s Zoo might be just outside the east edge of Capitol View, its attractions draw young and old. “Families with kids get a kick out of being within walking or biking distance of the Zoo. What can be better than growing up near a Zoo?” says Kirkland.
