Preservation, renovation and revival define the vibe in Irvingdale
Home buyers can quickly pick up on the vibe of Irvingdale when they meander through its streets, because it’s clear as the glass on the brand-new windows of a renovated 1920s Cape Cod.
Over and over, buyers will see updated and recently renovated classic homes, immaculate front yards, brightly colored gardens and century-old hardwood trees. Homes testify to the love their owners have for them with additions such as repurposed garages, new brick walkways, updated wrought-iron fencing and refurbished windows. In the heart of Irvingdale, a historic park corridor is in mid-renovation, while along Van Dorn Street, trendy new dining spots are gaining favor.
According to Matt Kirkland, owner of Giving Realty and a Lincoln real estate agent for over 20 years, “Irvingdale is a unique little urban neighborhood with a look all its own. While the homes are a little more price competitive than in Country Club, people show off their house-proud nature a bit more loudly. Driving around Irvingdale is fun because someone is always doing something to their house or yard. Healthy competition, I guess you could say!”

L’s Kitchen is where lovers of French-inspired cuisine go for top-notch dining in a casually elegant space. Their “unpretentious, cozy, sophisticated” tagline is not aspirational but evident by its menu and décor. White Elm Brewing Company welcomes fans to its high-ceilinged, casually cool space with large windows and custom wood tables. The focus is on their small-batch craft beers, but they welcome local food trucks and caterers to provide food that fits the vibe.
Realtor Kirkland says, “L’s Kitchen and White Elm have brought attention to Irvingdale in the past few years. It’s great for neighbors who can just walk down the street to enjoy them both. But, it’s also great for Lincoln because it underscores our restaurant scene, which gets better every year.” The closest grocery store to Irvingdale is Russ’s Market at 33rd Street and Nebraska Parkway.
