Suburban neighborhood with new homes and easy I-80 access

Stone Bridge Creek offers quiet suburban living on the northern edge of Lincoln. The HOA-managed neighborhood offers contemporary homes, quick downtown commutes and a family-oriented atmosphere. “It’s certainly a good part of town,” says lifetime local Taylor Wyatt, a Realtor with NHS Commercial. “Lots of young families.” Stone Bridge Creek sits right off of Interstate 80, home to an elementary school, neighborhood park and plenty of paved trails. Wyatt says the community is still being built out and has more affordable new construction properties than neighborhoods on the city’s south side.

Traditional styles and newer builds mix in Stone Bridge Creek

The neighborhood mainly offers single-family properties, which roughly range from $286,000 to just under $580,000, but townhouses are also in the neighborhood, typically priced between $265,000 and $419,000. “This area has what I call traditional Lincoln housing: lots of vinyl and big garages,” Wyatt says. Many of Stone Bridge Creek’s Minimal Traditional snout houses were built in the early 2000s, and new construction has introduced sleekly designed New Traditional and modern transitional homes, adding some architectural variety. Lincoln has an average annual snowfall of about 26 inches, so residents keep snow shovels and rock salt handy. The city is also in Tornado Alley, making it vulnerable to cyclone storms.

Aviation program and dual enrollment boost high school offerings

Lincoln Public Schools has an A-minus on Niche. It ranks No. 1 on the website’s list of Lancaster County’s best schools. Kooser Elementary, right in the neighborhood, has a B. Schoo Middle, less than 5 miles away, also receives a B, as does the local high school: North Star High. The high school features a technical education program for students interested in aviation, letting them get hands-on industry experience at the school’s on-site hangar. Dual enrollment courses, offered by Southeast Community College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, are another way students can get ahead.

Trails, parks and wetlands offer outdoor fun close to home

Stone Bridge Creek supports active lifestyles with paved trails throughout the community. They run alongside main roads like 14th Street and link with Lincoln’s broader trail network, which spans over 180 miles. “A lot of people like the trails for biking and walking their dogs,” Wyatt says. The neighborhood also has a mini park with a playground, a basketball court, a gazebo and open green space where leashed four-legged friends are welcome. There’s even a pet waste station for easy cleanup. Nearby, The Fairways at Lincoln Golf Course features a public, par-36 executive course and a practice facility. More rustic recreation is due north, in rural Lancaster County, home to salt marshes left behind by an ancient sea. These saline wetlands are prime spots for photo ops, Wyatt says. “I’ve walked the trails at Little Salt Creek with my family. It’s really pretty, and you see a lot of wildlife.” Frank Shoemaker Marsh is about 3 miles away, covering 160 acres. More trails, trees and animals are within a 10-mile drive at Little Salt Springs, a wildlife management area.

National retailers and local gems are both close to home

Interstate 80 ALT is about 2 miles away, lined with popular chain restaurants like Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and King Kong. Folks run errands around its intersection with Superior Street, where they’ll find Sam’s Club, Walmart Supercenter and other conveniences like The UPS Store, Chase Bank and Crunch Fitness. Downtown Lincoln is about 6 miles away, but a smaller walkable area to shop and dine is even closer. The nearby Fallbrook neighborhood features a main street with a couple of gastropubs, a cafe and a clothing boutique, each locally owned.

Easy highway and airport access, limited public transportation

Stone Bridge Creek is walkable, but the nearest StarTran bus stops are a couple of miles away, making the area a little more car-dependent when it comes to commuting. All-hours emergency care is less than 10 miles away at Bryan West Campus’s medical center. Lincoln Airport, a joint public/military facility, has domestic flights about 6 miles away. Downtown Lincoln is a little over 5 miles south. Interstate 180, accessible within a mile’s drive, is a direct route. Residents also have nearby access to Interstate 80 off of Arbor Road, within roughly 2 miles.
