A serene atmosphere with an industrial past in Lime Rock
Lime Rock, located in Lincoln, has a history rooted in its namesake industry: limestone quarrying. The remnants of the once-thriving Lime Rock Railroad, which transported limestone from local quarries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, provide a glimpse into the area’s industrial past. Today, Lime Rock has quiet streets and rural landscapes, giving it a small-town feel. While the neighborhood offers a serene lifestyle, with parks, reservoirs and river branches running throughout, it is also within easy reach of modern amenities.
Historical architecture meets modern design
The Blackstone River runs east of the neighborhood and, according to Deb Hackett, a Realtor with Re/Max Town and Country, with over 20 years of experience selling in Rhode Island, “There used to be mills along the river. Now, they’ve been converted into multi-family homes. Things are more spread out and rural in the northern part of Lime Rock, but as you go further south, where the mills used to be, properties start to sit closer together.” Housing in Lime Rock primarily consists of single-family homes in various architectural styles reflecting the neighborhood’s historical roots. Along tree-lined streets, find historic 18th-century Colonial structures with classic gabled roofs and wooden clapboard siding beside large homes with Victorian influences. These properties typically run in the $600,000 to $700,000 range. There are also more contemporary designs featuring modern amenities, including an upcoming 55-plus community on Old River Road that features single-level condos running around $400,000. Common architectural elements include charming front porches, dormer windows and pitched roofs, reminiscent of New England’s traditional aesthetic.
A-minus-rated schools in Lime Rock
Students are zoned for the Lincoln Public School District and can attend Lincoln Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Lincoln Senior High School. They all receive an A-minus rating from Niche. The high school has a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio, and to graduate, students must complete an exhibition. This extended project showcases a mastery of knowledge and skills in a particular area of study.
An expansive bike trail and outdoor recreation areas
Blackstone River State Park runs linearly along the Blackstone River and extends 17 miles from Providence to Warwick. The park’s centerpiece, the Blackstone River Bikeway, has 24 miles of paved trail already constructed out of a planned 48. It runs through the forest beside stone remnants and wooden fences, and, once completed, it will serve as an alternative mode of transportation for commuters to Providence. Traveling through the park, learn about and see the Blackstone Canal, the Kelly House Transportation Museum and dams that once powered the American Industrial Revolution. Lime Rock Preserve sits just west of the neighborhood boundaries. Stroll along an abandoned trolley track that meanders through forest, over hills and curves. Overlooking Manton Pond is a grass-covered dam that’s a common resting place along the hike. Due to the preserve’s rich soil that overlays early limestone deposits, there’s a lush, diverse forest home to copious wildflowers and mature, shady trees. Also within the neighborhood are two golf courses – Lincoln Country Club and Fairlawn Golf Course – and Chase Farm, an idyllic green landscape with paved trails that wander past a pond and lush expanses of green fields and rolling hills.
Tavern fare and nearby shopping
For a bite to eat, head to The Lodge Pub & Eatery, a family-owned tavern with an outside deck where customers can sit. On George Washington Highway, just outside the neighborhood to the west, residents can grab ingredients for dinner from Stop & Shop or enjoy a movie at the neighboring theatre. There’s also a Target, Dunkin’, Dollar Tree and various other amenities here, ensuring locals have access to everything they need.
Access to Boston and Providence
Lime Rock is just minutes away from the Massachusetts state line. U.S. Interstate 295 runs along the northern border of the neighborhood and can take residents about 60 miles north to Boston. Rhode Island State Route 146 will lead them about 10 miles south to Providence. The North Central State Airport is about 3 miles west of the neighborhood.
